Well I drove around the lake today doing a little scouting. From a visual standpoint the area around the mouth of White Rock and the sailboat docks would be the best place to catch some crappies. Although today would have been bad because the current was really strong. I have not driven around the lake in years.

I checked out the link above and looked at the stocking schedule. Between 1978 and 1979 they dumped in 7.8 million walleye. Were they an experiment to see how they would do or as a food source for the bass? Have any been caught in recent years because it does not list them. It would be cool to catch a distant relative from the original stocking breed.

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

I used to catch them below the spillway, the stairsteps, back in the day. Believe me, they are LONG gone. It was experimental. They had been doing some genetic research to try and cross breed a strain that would withstand hot texas summer lake water. (1) Lakes in this area not deep enough(except for Texoma) to maintain water cool enough to help them survive. (2) Brutal spring rains caused the type flooding and opening of dam gates to cause too many of them to wash out of lakes and into shalllowere, wamer rivers and streams where they were quickly caught, died from the heat or were eaten by things like Alligator Gars and Flathead cats.
I even caught them at what is now known as LLela, and even as far downstream as the spillway off 183 and Grauwyler on the Elm Fork. You see, Lewisville had them too. Rudy

Where is a good place to launch? I just picked up a yak and am taking it out today for the first time. Brought a couple of rods and some jigs to fart around with. Are you fishing around the sail boat docks? That's where I was thinking of unloading. I dont wanna take the yak out too far since I'm not experienced.

the sailing clubs right before and after dark woould be a good place to start. kinda windy today, but you will get some protection in that area.
