I bought a stator for my 2001 Jhonson from a marine store online. They are also a boat dealership. Well any how the stator that i got from BRP does not look like the stator that i took off. The box is from BRP and it even has the stamp when the dealership ordered it for me directly from BRP. The old stator that i have says Made in Mexico. The new has on it assembled in the U.S. and it looks like the one CDI(after market part) makes. My mechanic told me that he had heard that BRP is now buying some parts from CDI. I even called to BRP and told them that the part did not match and they told me that they might of made it more "modern". Has anybody heard of this?

Stators have evolved over the years, mainly because they break down from heat. The totally incapsulated stator is now gone down in history for breaking down due to retaining heat. The new style is exposed coils, Looks a little cheep but tends to work better by giving a more consistant voltage at all rpm ranges. The motor manufactures have been swapping parts between each other for years like some kind of bargin bin. So just because it do'nt look thesame doesn't mean it won't work. If it bolts on and plugs in , run it like you stole it.

Thanks for the info. Just wondering what does incapsulated stator mean? That just means they used to have a plastic housing/ coating molded around the coil.
