We need to teach todays youth how to fish, compete, boating skills and how to be good in the outdoors. They also need quality time on the water to learn good sportmanship. Most kids under the age of 16 would be a handicap to the adult in a team tournament. Face it you leave your kids at home to fish with your partner because of his or her fishing skills. With entry fees not being cheap it only makes sense. This is one of the reasons we started the Fun-nSun Adult/Youth tournament trail. This is not bream fishing event and its surely not the Classic but you might think it is the classic when see your son, daughter, neice, nephew etc. walks up to the weigh-in with a bag of fish (reguardless of their size). Their eye's light up and smiles all around. We all have a great time. We keep it short from safe light till noon so they do not loose interest. This is our 3rd year and it is amazing to see the development of these boys and girls. We have 5 tournaments and a championship. Our 1st tournament is 3/28/10 on Lake Whitney at Cedar Creek park! Please come out and join us. For more info call me at 817-447-9191 or go to www.funnsunboats.com

I know if I was on fish I wouldn't hesitate to try the Bass Champs deal where the youth fishes for free.

I went to see a weigh-in for the Fishers of Men Legacy Series event on Palestine a couple of weeks ago. You are right, seeing the smiles on the kids faces are well worth the money and time the adults spend on the tournament.
I cant wait until my 17 1/2 month old son is able to go with me!

My son is 10 and has been fishing T's with me for the last two years. He knows his stuff and always connects with fish. His problem is he wants to shoot the BB gun too much.

Absolutely! I fish Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail, I also Fish The Legacy Tour with my 11 year old son. It is awesome, for both of us. The entry fee is half the normal team entry for the Team Series, so the youth actually fish free. Fishers of Men is an incredible organization with Regional and Nation championships you can qualify for. http://www.fomntt.com/legacy/Check it out at this web site. In my region, all the kids who fish get a trophy after each tournament. Its a win-win. Take your kid fishing!

ABSOLUTELY.......I began fishing team trails when I was 14. My partner was really cool about waiting until school was out and working with my mom as far as expenses and such. I fished all over Texas, Louisiana, and OK and had a great time and learned alot. It was a much easier learning curve when I bought my first boat. I would repay that favor anytime and pass it along. It made me a better fisherman in the longrun and it was very much appreciated getting to have those experiences at a young age. I always made sure I pulled my wieght and was cashing checks at the lake instead of mowing lawns P.S. THANKS MIKE JUNKIE

I wish your trail was closer. My son has fished team tournaments with me since he was 6. We won Dr. Shelton's (Over 130 boats) on Rayburn when he was 7. No disadvantage fishing with him at all.

I have fished some with him we have cashed a few checks and we have lost too. He is now 16 years old and can fish just as good as any one, I have no confidence problem with him in the boat. Plus all the memories that were made through the years.

I hope this answers your question.....I fished two full seasons with my son, we did pretty decent most of the time. The memories are some of the best I have with my son. He was 13 in this pic...he's 15 now and three inches taller than me. Of course right now he is baseballin and chasing chicks....I will get him back on the boat for some tournament fishing some day (as soon as he lets me!). Its kinda like "Cats in the Craddle".....one day you will beg your child to fish with you! We won a JC Outdoors event together....man what a great day it was...lucky...but Great Memory!
Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.
