OK, I know every lure will produce better than others depending on the Fish Gods, but overall does this lure beat the old stand by rattletrap? If so, what would be 2 colors you would be throwing? I just hate to keep buying new lures every year, when I already have a boat load. Thanks.

get one in chrome sexy with black or blue top, and the other in a white sexy shad. use the chrome during sunny days, and the white during cloudy days or slightly stained water this immitates a shad without a lot of flash. this should help some. the first few times i used the red eye they were not very productive for me. but this season they have been my best bait so far.
good luck

Maybe I'm wrong, but IMHO it doesn't matter if you are trying to get a reaction strike. Right now, I'm throwing the red cotton cordell because they were on sale at Academy. Caught a 5.5 and 6 pounder last time I was out in early March. Later in the year if I am using a trap it will be chrome and blue, and I am going to mix in gold/black this year. My gut tells me that bass hit these lures out of instinct. They don't like the rattle, and when you move it past their face, they try to kill it. Just my. 02.

I'm a believer in red eye shad. Son and I fished Fork monday - wed and tore them up on 4 different colors:

bleeding gizzard shad
gold black back
orange craw
and color 414

It made no difference which we threw at them, they bit all of these colors well. Hooks are super sharp and each one tracks perfectly. Only negative is the paint does get chipped easily, but they catch em!

What differentiates the Red Eye Shad from other flat sided rattle baits is the action of the lure on the fall. It has a 'shimmy' action on the fall unlike the other brands. Great action when you rip it out of grass and let it fall or when yo-yoing.

Hey, if I whacked hogs like that, I could deal with the paint chipping. Thanks to all for the info.

The Yo-Zuri Rattl'n Vibe also has the shimmy action on the fall and been around longer.

I really like the gold/black Red Eye Shad. I had a lot of success with it last year in stained/muddy water and am certain I will again this year.

I have every color they make and they all produce. Last weekend my bro was catching em on a red Super Spot and I got blanked on Red Eyes. Kinda like any other bait I guess, gotta throw what the fish are lookin for.

Color 430 over grass in the spring. Bass are mad at it.

I've caught more on the chrome and black than I have with the chrome and blue one. Don't know why, but I have.

Same here. I keep hearing about a red trap in the grass, but chrome and black keep getting it done.
