Well,

HAd a great day fishing on Saturday after noon
with Joey Compello,
We started off up near the mouth of little elm and then finished up at two trees area.
Alot of fish and on the west side of two trees we had a great time with some fish slamming bait up in the shallow water for about 30 mins and no
boat traffic go a little wet but fish did'nt seem to mind.
The fish were active all over the lake but the best part was my son used my boat on Tuesday and
was gone for about three or four hours and I ask him if he ran all the gas out and he said not hardly even ran it,I had just put about
50.00 in on Sunday nite after coming off lake.
Well just to be safe I put about 30.oo in before
meeting up with Joey at 2:00 saturday after noon
at pier 121.Well we ran alot and about 8:00 pm
the first time in my life I ran out of gas.
I guess that goes to show you. Look at your fuel gauge and don't believe a 18 yr old when he says he didnt run the boat much.
We were very close to ramp when it happened I made him pick up my truck and drive to the harbor
bay ramp and pick me up,We had a awesome day and
learned a lesson look at your gauge and fill up anyway whether you have time or not.

That's a good lesson to learn for sure Trent.

We NEVER go anywhere on Texoma without topping it off before you get it wet.

Years ago forgot to fill up and ran out on McQueeny about 100 yards from a dock with gas. The old guy running the place asked me if I was trying to wean it. Great line.

Been there done that. Last year I ran out of gas while on the water. Footnote: I don't have a guage. Only a 6 gallon can that sits in the boat. My gauge is opening it up and looking in.

Well, after the motor stalled because of the lack of fuel I though to my self "no big deal, I'll just troll the rest of the way in". Then the dang prop to my trolling motor comes off!

So I too don't trust "my gauge" any more.
It could have been worse for you.

I'll bet you now have extra tm prop pins and props in the boat too!

The eye sight gas guage is always best. And if you fish the same lakes, you learn to judge how far you can go on one or two tanks of gas.

Last time I trolled in because of engine problems, turned out to by my safety lanyard....thought my oil pump had failed.

Hey Terry! McQeeney huh? It's been a while since I heard that lake name.

I had major service on my Johnson 150 this year. Can't believe the difference in gas usage. I have been out on LL 4 times now and the guage still shows almost a half tank of gas. I'm filling up before next weekend to see if the guage is correct.

Right on! Top off prior to leaving.

I can never tell whether to read the gauge when "on plane" or at "idle speed" so I just fill 'er up. smile

Glad you were close to the ramp!

Well, call me hard headed but I don't carry an extra prop. But I do check to see if that nut is tight at the beging of every trip. And I also top off with fuel with every trip.
I don't ever want to go through that again!

Here's a tip I learned years ago. You can guess why! smile

I took my gas level detector out of my tank and bent the float rod down a little. Now when my tank says "E" I have 8 gallons of fuel left. (It used to be "E" meant the motor quit running.)

If you attempt this be careful. The first time I tried I broke the rod and had to order a new detector.

And when you take it out of the tank, don't be smoking any cigarettes or anything. smile And do it outdoors, not in a closed garage or something.

Ran outta gas last fall and will probably do it again, maybe tomorrow. Trolling motor's 3 batteries are always charged and will get me to land.

Never trust a gas guage. Get a Navman 2100 and quit quessing.

I ran out just last week on Texoma. Fortunately I was just entering the cove to Cedar Bayou marina and fortunately someone had just opened up the marina store. I've learned my lesson. Now I carry a small 2gal. gas can (filled)in case it happens again.
