Just interested to hear what everyone uses to fish a shakey head. I buy one rod and reel setup each year and am considering a purchase for this technique. I will consider all price points. I am sure there is probably a thread with this question but don't have the patience find.

I just bought a MOJO spinning rod and paired it with a pro qualifier 20 series reel- 8lb test floro- actually caught two fish on it this weekend- I love the rod and reel- not so sure about the floro- It jumps off the spool real bad. I'm thinking braid with a floro leader may be the ticket

I use the power shakey head technique that i have yet to lose a fish on. My setup includes an h20 mettle spooled with 10lb cabelas fluoro and a 7'2 carrot stick. Now the reason i say power due to the shakey head jig that i use. The luck e strike football power jig. These suckers come with heavy duty hooks that are guaranteed to stick and not get bent. The hook up ratio is increased due to the larger hook compared to the others who use a light wire hook that is teeny. no light wire for me please. Works great for those long shakey worms.

I use 7' med Falcon Cara spinning rod with a 2500 Diawa Exceller and 8lb P-line flouro clear. Very sensitive and I have had a very good hook up ratio since I have been using it!

hey j-spencer you might take about 30-40 yards of line off your spool and use kvd line & lure that should help

That is one of my favorite techniques nowadays. Here are some of the set ups I enjoy:

Megabass F3-66XDti Griffon Evolution
Shimano 50MG
8 - 10 lb Trilene 100% Fluoro

I also like my MBR 842 and am looking forward to using my Dobyns DX701C as well as the Daiwa Cielo 6'10" ML spinning rod

I have the Dobyns DX702SF Finesse matched up with a Shimano Stradic...Great spinning set up

If your looking for a casting rod the DX702C Finesse is your rod and match it with a Shimano 50MG or H20 Mettle

As far as line twist...get 10lb braid with a 6-8lb fluorocarbon leader. The braid will be more sensitive and you wont have the memory that mono or fluoro has.

I also have a set-up specifically for shaky hesd fishing.

rod Mojo Bass Spinning rod 7ft med...
reel Shimano Stradic 2500fi
line Yozuri Hybrid 6lb smoke
jigs Megabass and Strike king shaky head

Great set-up for shaky heading. Very sensitive. I use finesse worms as well as crawfish/creature baits on my shaky head jigs.

Thanks for all the input. I have my shakey head set up. I got a Shimano Stradic 2500 paired with a Loomis shakey head rod. I have fished with 3 times and have caught a couple of bass on the rig! I am used to baitcasters and this is the first spinning reel I have owned. A little bit of a learning curve on getting used to casting but I will keep practicing. I have 8# Seagar Invisx on but plan on trying braid with a flouro leader. By the way... I grew up fishing in the 70's and 80's with my father who was an avid bass fisherman. I had not fished at all for about 20 years. Picked up again around 2005... my how things have changed while I was gone. At least I still remembered how to fish a texas rig and a hula popper! I loved it then and I love it now. Thanks.
