Always change install all new trolling motor batteries at the same time with all the same batteries if the old batteries are over two to three years old. Never mix types or different age batteries.

I have been researching batteries but am not an authority. I am just getting ready for the day mine give out. Currently in the boat going on 3rd season are Interstate Mega Trons, have had no problems, I am just researching for the day I do. From that research I intend to go with a Stow Away I found at Academy. CCA and MCA match what I have, the reserve is 205 vs the 160 I have, they carry a 1yr warranty and are almost $100.00 each less than the Optima. I figure for $90 and I can get 3-4 years, not too bad. I hope you find a good one, good luck!
My wife is always mad at me, so I figured I might as well give her a reason.....I bought a boat.

I've been running the Cabelas AGM batteries. They are good batteries so far but I've had them less than a year.
The main advantage for AGM's that I can think of is their ability to hold a charge longer, especially in cold environments. The disadvantage is their power goes out faster, right at the end. I haven't experienced it yet so I'm good to go so far.

WALLMART=NEVERSTARTS I have good luck with AC delcos sealed. You can find them at any GM dealer, shop around for prices.

I wont buy them again. I bought three regular Bass Pro batteries for about the price of one gel battery. They have a three year warranty with the first year being 100% replaceable

Don't have to "Water" them. They seem to recharge faster. Always get the largest batteries you can fit into your compartment, they run/last longer.

Todd Castledine - Rayburn Guide What you need is a set of small forklift batteries, they will last you a life time. See if you can find someone that works for a battery co. They can get some 2nds for almost the same price as regular boat batteries.....good luck. Fork Lift batteries... very interesting... do they hold a charge very long?

Thanks for all the info. I bought 2 of the Cabela's AGM batteries yesterday. I'll post in a year or two if they do a good job. If they fail before, you know I'll be posting about that.

I use Optima Gel for the cranking amps (6 years). Big lead acids for trolling. Never any problems. Just me.
