Well, I'd say the odds of catching a red on a topwater at Tradinghouse is about 0.0001%.
Just my opinion based on experience at Fairfield, not Tradinghouse (it has been done, however).

I used to fish Fairfield for them all the time. In 3 years of fishing for them I caught them on top 1 time. It was a blast a 17 & 18 pounder. Hope you find them on top @ Tradinghouse, but don't count on it. I have only fished there a couple times & only caught 1 redfish over there. Most folks troll a crankbait for them on Tradinghouse, a DD22 or something like that. I know they will hit a DB3, Big Trap, or Fat Free Shad. Good luck.
Personal best : Freshwater Red - 26.11lb. Striper - 15lb. Black- 7lb.

I have never caught a red on tradinghouse with a topwater. I know Redfin has in the past, but not very often. If I was closer and gas wasent so high I would fish it more often. Give it a try this weekend and let us know how you do.

THanks...I guess I will go and just troll DD22 and other deep diving crank baits....It is exactly 100 miles, one way to Tradinghouse from my home...
When I went to Aransas Pass last weekend, it was exactly 200 miles one-way....
Just thought I would give it shot....
Does anyone fish Tradinghouse in the Fall-time??
It is getting to be that time of the year to go to Tawakoni for topwater action, but I understand the lake is loooowwwwww.......It is 250 miles one-way, to Lake Tawakoni from my home. One of this days, I hope to find big striper around Austin...
Thanks for all the replies!

I know you won't forget your pearl fat free shad crank and several extras this time out RangerR. Let me know if you wanna borrow a few DD's..I have a few to share with you for Tradinghouse.
I will get with you Friday before heading out to Buch to get those prune pickers.
I know it's gonna be like a dead sea out there, but how else will I know if they are there if I'm not there to see them. Kinda reminds me of that tree falling in the woods tonight while I was home...I didn't hear it fall. R
Where do they go when they're not there???

RAM,
Might still join you and Roger on Buch, but I am seriously thinking Tradinghouse. I am hung up on the Pull from a big-ole redfish....
What about gold spoons?? Popping corks? I still have the saltwater trip in mind....There cannot be that much difference in lures and baits for freshwater versus saltwater redfish?? Or could there be??
Per TPWD for Lake Buchanan Oct 12, 2005 Water clear; 79 degrees; 6.40' low. Black bass are good on green pumpkin 6" Scoundrel worms on jigheads, 4" JDC Strike Grubs, and ¼oz. silver shad Terminator in.Red Seriesin. spinnerbaits at first light in 5 - 12 feet along points and bluff ledges. Striped bass are fair down rigging white striper jigs, swimming 3" Spoiler Shads, and drifting live bait over main lake humps in 25 - 30 feet from Flag to Black Rock. White bass are slow. Crappie are good on minnows over brushpiles in 15 feet. Channel catfish to 8 pounds are good on trotlines near Tow. Yellow and blue catfish are slow.

I've not redfished in Texas yet but we catch red's on topwater mirrorlures with the propellors all the time. Its a rush to see how much water a redfish displaces when he tries to kill a topwater. Try the mirrorlures with the spinners/props.

I will be headed to Tradinghouse early Sunday morning. Should arrive at 6:30am....I will be in a 17 foot, Green/Gray Ranger Bass boat with just two of us....I will be fishing allday and then posting late Sunday. This is my only second time to try. First time, REDFIN and other went earlier in the year. I just remember the fun we had. Might be a little warm, but I will try.
I will try all sorts of baits and depths...Thanks for the tips.

Started fishing at 8am, this Sunday morning. It was a short trip, due to having a kidney that decided to come out.. Started out catching three, 22"+ big Goo's...Released.
Lost one big redfish, after a poor drag setting...
Then about Noontime, near the middle of the dam, trolled DD22-Chrome bait, in 35 feet of water. My friend, PainterGlen, caught a 30"+ Redfish with many spots. I will post after getting film developed.
Had to get off the water by 12:20 and headed to a Waco hospital. Got home at 8:30PM....
The other problem was that there is alot of grass floating, causing trolling to be a problem...The first time, back in May, I do not remember all this grass...There were only three bass boats on the lake the whole time we were there!

Has anyone ever tried live shad for reds on Tradinghouse, Fairfield, Braunig, etc.? Years ago some buddies were catching some on live crawfish. That makes sense since they feed on crabs in saltwater. If they'll hit a deep crank, does it make sense to try live shad?

When I was at the hospital, the Radiologist said to try fishing live perch, in 30-35 feet of water for the monster redfish. Shad work, he said too, but have a hard time staying alive.
So, I guess I will have to get some perch, in a local creek and try again....
