I tell you if ever find that cheap USA-1 line, i think by shapespeare i'll buy every spool they have. That stuff in 17lb will pull a train, not to mention straighten any hooks you got.

Someone has already mentioned it, but do away with that half blood knot and any other knot besides the polymer knot. Tie a sinker on with your half blood knot, and 12 inches away, tie a sinker with a polymer knot, and pull... It will break off at the blood knot everytime.

RichardP I have switched to the polymer knot and I think it works better, but it's not the knot. I have tried 3-different brands of lines and after a few days they go bad to were I can break with little effert with my hands. I don't think it's my rod eyes, I can pull off 100' of line and break it with no problems, but I can't do that when the line is first installed on my reels. Anyways thanks for all the help!

OK, so assuming you are not fishing in a radioactive cooling lake, and you don't store the reel on top of your boat battery, the only ideas I have left is to question the method you use to place line on your reel, or the collar that contacts the line on your bail-type reel.
Too much tension when spooling new line, or that collar on the bail is nicked, rough, or on backwards. Hope you figure it out before you loose a big one!!

I like the stuff that is 3.99 for a thousand+ yards. The cheaper the better. I have always liked the cheap line it seems to have less memory and hold up better for longer. I have kept several spools in my tackle box and on my rods for years and not much trouble. Only a couple of bad batches through the years.

My turn - Mo has some sound advice - I like the BPS camo in 6# as well as 8# - Ande Back Country was developed for spinning reels and is limper than premium Ande and is also an excellent light line - consider changing line often and don't go with the high dollar stuff - I can outcast braid with mono and don't have to put up with braid snarls when using light baits.

Now you have my curiosity on overdrive.
Please answer
#1 Is the line ok out of the box? ( I have
bought line that was old and bad )
# 2 What kind of water are you fishing?
Clean open water ? Muddy , stump infested
water ? ( abrasion question )

# 3 Do you hang up a lot and have to break
off lures? ( you can stretch light lines to the
point where they will weaken )

If the line is ok on the spool , you are tying
a good knot , and you are not damaging the line
by storage conditions or use, Then it almost
has to be damaged by your line guides or reel.

What kind of fishing are you doing? Constant
casting for hours Or soaking bait ?

Again my curiosity is engaged, let me know
what you determine to be the problem.

Mo is right, check it out before you put it on. Light test line can obviously be damaged easier than heavier line. Also - store it in a cool, dark place. I use the freezer in the gargage. As for brands - most these days are great. I buy T-Line almost exclusively. Yes, that's T LINE, not P. It is the best line I've used in 25 years of angling. It is made by Mason out of Otisville IN. You can find it on the internet............

"..The pleasantist angling is to see the fish
Cut with her golden oars the silver stream,
And greedily devour the treacherous bait.

Mo, 1. New out of the box the line is good, Strain was the last brand. 2. Water is clean fresh water. 3. I have two alta-light rods and reel both I have this problem. Maye it's the rod eyes I will check again. I do store in garage in the room with hot water heater but the temp in the winter never is over 80 degs. I just put this line on the day before I went to Toledo Bend lake. After the first day fishing the next day both rod lines bad. This is the third time I have had this problem. Again I will re-check my fishing gear, but I did strip off 75 yards of line and had no problem breaking with my hands without the line cutting into my hands.
