Looking for a setup to launch some bait out pretty far, prefer abu garcia round bait casters, rod doesnt matter to me, want a setup that i can use for the surf and use off a pier also...also intersted in buying a reel that is already suped up and tuned to launch if anyone knows where in the houston area to get a reel like this or get a reel made this way, even a website?? plz let me know ASAP, thanks you guys.......ok so i went out today and found a shimano tekota 600 and a 10ft heavy action rod that is very light, would this be a good setup for what im wanting????

TIGHT LINES!!!!!!

i have 2 american rodsmith 10ft surf rod from academy with penn 209 and jig master and im very happy with it.

you can find the penn jigmaster on ebay for fairly cheap and they have all kind of upgrade parts for it like the handle bar, frames, high speed gears, etc. one other thing is its very easy to take apart and clean after being in the surf..heres one on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/Custom-Penn-Jigmaste...=item2559573abd

my 2nd suggestion is the daiwa sealine XHA OR SHA. both reels are the best bang for the buck and it will out perform just any reel in the same price range..heres a link http://www.daiwa.com/Reel/detail.aspx?ID=190

You need to go to www.breakawayusa.com and look at what the SFCCI (Shore Fishing Competitive Casting International inc) use. They are the definitive answer to long distance surf casting.

When I surf/pier fish...I use:

10'-12' American Rodsmith rods matched with

daiwa sealine x sha series (30,40 &50's) & saltist series
penn squidders, jigmasters, GS series (535,545,555)

The daiwa sealines and saltists cast like a dream.

Penn 525 Mag. This is a purpose built surf casting reel that is light and is already set up for what you want to do. Best bet in my opinion. The speed shaft Daiwas are also excellent.
