How would you hook a recently caught dead 2-3 inch shad into a hook so that it can be casted away and reeled in as if the shad is swimming in a little natural way?

I rembered people may evenuse cut shad. Does it really work better to let a dead shad swim why reeling? Hooking it at the back under diresal fin the shad on the hook may turn when it is pulled in.

Stick the hook through they're eye sockets.....The socket and nose cartlidge give a tough part of the bait to keep the hook from pulling out or through teh bait. It also allows the bait to run in natural-like position. Note I do this with most live shad also unless the bait is over 6". When a bait is over 6" the head and cartlidge is little wide for my liking so I bring it through the back behind the head for my live shad.. Fish try to swallow most baits head first so why not have the hook go down first.
