It is amazing how many people on the internet blindly believe anything they see or gets forwarded to them. The statement that started this hysteria was

"The Obama administration will accept no more public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing the nation's oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters".

Duh, "accept no more public comment" is perfectly accurate. In fact that is normal business for state and federal government. They publicly "open" public comment and depending on the agency, the comment period remains open for 30 days to 6 months or more.

At the the end of that period they publicly end comment by stating the end of the comment period.

I had a high school coach who often called us "catfish" (all mouth and no brain). The internet brings out millions of catfish.

It's not unique to the internet. The same sort of information is spread through word of mouth just as much if not more. You just don't hear it as often because you have to be there when the catfish speaks. On the internet, when the catfish types, it can linger around forever giving the casual observer more time to stumble upon it and shake their head at the ignorance.

Spend a little time in any rural diner and eavesdrop on the surrounding conversations. You'd think it was a forwarded email reading party.

During the lead up to the Iraq war, a stranger who dropped by my house and struck up a conversation with us was convinced that Saddam had ICBMs with Nukes that could hit the US.

Those who dislike him will always find something to bitch about. Those who support him will defend to no end. We others will use common sense and logic to what is really happening. Seems common sense is no longer common.

Just an observation here, today it was all over the news ( all news channels not just conservative ones ) that the leaders in power were going to use a tactic to pass the health care bill without a vote because they do not have the votes to pass it. The statement from their own mouths ( I heard in an interview ) that the people do not care about the process ( the constitution defines the process) instead the people just wanted health care. Now most do not want what the government is trying to sell us and if the president signs it and it is put in to action WITHOUT being LAW (voted on) then I am not sure what I believe about other dark and nasty areas they are headed. This is not a party issue...it is about conserving our constitution and the basis this country was founded on. At the least I am a skeptic and stand to use my power of the vote, my right to protest to my representatives and ability to get educated on the issues. It IS a BIG deal and we should pay attention. They are like ticks..a little blood here and a little blood there and soon enough we don't have much blood left.

No Net

"Deem and Pass" is far more complicated then "pass the health care bill without a vote".

here is some reading on the subject

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/ezra-klein/2010/03/the_arms_race_of_rules.html

but since this is way off topic, might i direct you to the bunker for further discussion.

"but at the end of the day hes just trying to strengthen our capitalist democracy"

Did you recently come out of a coma?

"Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

Atlantic bluefin tuna trade ban fails

Doha, Qatar – Discussion of a long-awaited proposal to ban international commercial trade in Atlantic bluefin tuna was cut short today at the largest wildlife trade convention when an immediate vote was pushed through.

Member governments of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) chose to vote today on the proposal. 72 out of 129 CITES members voted against the trade ban, 43 voted in favour, with 14 abstentions.

“After overwhelming scientific justification and growing political support in past months – with backing from the majority of catch quota holders on both sides of the Atlantic – it is scandalous that governments did not even get the chance to engage in meaningful debate about the international trade ban proposal for Atlantic bluefin tuna,” said Dr Sergi Tudela, Head of Fisheries at WWF Mediterranean and observer at the CITES Conference of the Parties in Doha.

Once the Principality of Monaco had tabled the proposal this afternoon and a number of countries had given brief interventions, Libya called for an immediate vote on the proposal.

“The regional fisheries management organization in charge of this fishery – the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas, ICCAT – has repeatedly failed to sustainably manage this fishery,” said Dr Tudela. “ICCAT has so far failed miserably in this duty so every pressure at the highest level must come to bear to ensure it does what it should.”

WWF will proactively call on restaurants, retailers, chefs and consumers around the world to stop selling, serving, buying and eating this endangered species. Already a growing body of the global seafood market sector is choosing to avoid Atlantic bluefin tuna to give the exhausted fish stocks a chance of recovery – including such groups as Carrefour Europe.

“It is now more important than ever for people to do what the politicians failed to do – stop consuming bluefin tuna,” Dr Tudela said.

The Principality of Monaco – the CITES member country that submitted the proposal for a CITES Appendix I listing of the species – became last year the first country in the world to be entirely bluefin tuna free. WWF is urging other countries to follow suit.

Thankfully cites listing for bluefin did not pass. There would have been no hope to curb the overfishing of these fish due to the fact Japan and so many of the Med harvesters of the fish were sure to take reservation. This would have opened a gold rush, take the last one if you can fishing derby. At least now there exists the POSSIBILITY of responsible fishing rules. I wish those med. countries could take a bluefin conservation lesson from the US. and Canada. Perhaps they too would be able to enjoy the great bounty of these fish like the North Americans do.

I caught some white bass today. It was fun. Then Obama jumped out of the bushes and stole my rod and reel! WTF?!

I don't know why everyone is getting hysterical about Obama. He hasn't done anything yet. Once something actually happens that hurts the American people, then its a legitimate argument. Even this new health reform hasn't taken in effect yet. Soooo... that would mean all the conservative and liberal arguments are based on idiocracy and ignorance. Or racism...
