Me and the family are headed to bastrop lake next week, any tips or advice on where to fish. Whats the best lure right now. Plan on doing some catfishing too. Wanted to know if the shad are still deep or shallow. Plan on trying to catch some. Never fished this lake so any info would sure help. Thanks

Was there last weekend fishing a club team tournament. Our best 10 weighed on paper 34.26. Fish the dam throw a Grande Bass Mega Tail worm in blue fleck color. Also a deep diving crank bait. Fished other areas but the dam was best early than pull way out later in the day and fish the worm deeper.

I'll be there as well w/ family at the SP/ boat, was there about three months ago had a guy give me a redeye shad in a crawdad color. Lots of weeds/ Hydrilla to contend with, very small lake. Some old guys were working some spinner baits but I never did any good. Worked a silver crack and pulled three later in the afternoon on the egde of weeds/ Hydrilla and creek bottom. This will only be my second time so Im in on any helpful info as well. Don't think I'll pull any monsters just looking for quantity not quality and good times.

If you want quantity try early in the discharge. Like early early to beat the other boats.

I like to fish deeper on Bastrop. The bank does not drop off steeply, so the shallow water extends out quite a ways in most places. Concentrate on the first significant drop offs and the weedlines. You can sit your boat in 15 feet of water in a lot of places and fish the drop offs, flats, and weedlines in the same cast.

My best luck is always on c-rigged flukes, tx rigged baby brush hogs and power worms, pumpkin or watermelon/red

thanks for the info guys, but since mother nature is going to be a $#^#% and make it rain this weekend, we decided to cancel reservations. We were going to head over Sat. morning and stay to Monday at the south shore cabins, but since its going to rain on those days we decided to cancel. This weather pattern sure has been in a funk lately. I wouldnt mind raining during the week
and then have nice weekends.

supersix, the weatherman get it wrong as often as right, so rain may not make it. Rather fish in the rain than the wind anyway. Agree with all the above. Discharge early if they are generating, if not, try wind blown points in the main lake near south shore area or along rip-rap at dam. Been catching alot of quality fish in the slot in 15' adjacent to weedlines or deeper channels. Deep cranks in shad patterns and carolina rigged worms in green colors have worked well for me over the last couple of months. There are so many fish here that you should have no problem getting your rod bent. Couple of weeks ago I got about an 8 lb channel cat on a silver rattlin' rouge while bass fishing.

welcome aboard copout

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Well we were there this weekend and it was a blast. Couldn't buy a bite. Hadn't figured out to catch bass when they start getting on the beds or are on the beds.

I won't say they weren't biting, as my daughter and I watch some folks with a stringer of about 9. We whiched them catch 3 in a matter of 20 minutes, but couldn't see what they were throwning out there.

Thanks for the welcome, Kodyspapa! See ya'll on the pond. Hopedale, sorry to hear you didn't have much success...I usually fish LB like a typical Fall/Spring pattern. Look at the earlier posts, it's what is working. Lake gets pretty hot in the summer, so deep structure is the key then. Scouts creek water temp was already at 69 late last week...who knows when they spawn in there, I have not figured it out.

Fish are on beds pretty musch everywhere this weekend. Try fishing dam with soft plastics(flukes, senkos). Then hit creeks later in the am or pm.
