Looking for suggestions on catfishing Lake Bastrop...like to take the kiddos over Spring break. Went this morning, fished a creek channel (14' w/ shallows adjacent), standing timber, water temp at 69, commarants all over a tree, threw out sour grain, DID NOT get a hit...? moved around a little, still no luck. Wind was high, so I caught a few bass and went home. Any help/tips appreciated. I would love the kids to get some bent rods, and I'll have a boat full, so sitting/drifting (catfishing) will be best choice. Thanks in advance!!

If you'll work the flats in 20-30' southwest of where the birds set up in the trees. The cats been scattered lately, but cut buffalo and small shad seem to be the bait preferred. Depending on which way the wind is blowing, I normally start on the south side, just out of the no wake zone and try to drift the east shoreline about 100 yards off of it. When you come out of the south shore and see the point extending out on your right, the 1st 100 yards or so has quite a bit of bottom snags to hang up on, but past that a little way, it clears up all the way past the main lake hump. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dominoman, that helps alot. I'll try to get some shad and check it out. BTW, been picking up alot of bass in that same area lately. Appreciate the tip. Think I can cast net up some shad somewhere?

I'm still working on my late fall supply out of the freezer. You may try around the hot water discharge, early, just after daylight. That was where I found them the last time I was hunting shad out there. They're not real big but usually a lot of them. Right at the cable in the center of the channel there is a submerged tree that will capture your cast net if not careful, just stay about 30-40 feet off the cable and you'll be OK.
