Do a search on squid. We just talked this subject several months ago.

No one is even aware IF there are squid in Texas waters. I have several squid jigs that I am going to try at the end of Bo bHall pier next time I am down there.

Squid are normally caught on florescent squid jigs off of boats or piers under lights. IF there are any in gulf waters near shore they would be found in the deepest water off of lighted Gulf piers or off of GOM Rigs in deep water. Here is a link to what a squid jig looks like. http://cgi.ebay.com/1x-Squid-Fishing-Jig...=item4cee2f3680The squid hit the jig and are impaled on the pins on the jigs bottom. If the squid are around, I don't know which months are best for fishing for them. We used to fish them from the piers in the Seattle area of Puget Sound.

I wonder where around the Lower Laguna I could find them. Probably the deepest water I can access in my flats boat is by the South Jetty of South Padre. Maybe when it warms up I can anchor out there, drop some green LED lights down about 50 feet and try one of those jigs?

Catch the Shrimp boats when they drop off their live shrimp at the bait shops, they catch quite a few in the shrimp nets. They are here, just not real thick or real big, most i've seen were in the 2" (scuttle) range

A long time ago (when I was a kid) we caught a lot of squid in the surf at night at surfside just dragging a minnow seine off the beach. They can pinch you pretty good when you handle them. The species you will catch along shore is Loligo brevis, which only get about 3-inches in length (the frozen bait squid). The really big 10-inch species are found much farther offshore.
If you catch fresh squid, they are really great eating.
Have fun.

Cast net at night around the lights...
Like Pineywoods said... they'll pinch ya! they aren't too fond of being handled when they are alive
