I know Fairfield is pretty good. Are there any other gems out there?

I'll second Caddo. Had a great time out there last summer catching some pretty good sized bluegills. Can't wait to get back this year.

Conroe has some really large bream. I like to fish for bream at the dam on Conroe in the rip-rap or in the little cove just to the west of the dam where lake patrol facility is. There are some old docks and the area is shallow, also some small drainage ditches with deeper holes in front of them... just kept yanking bull bream out of there one day... whole ditch must have been full of them.

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

I definitely wouldn't say it's great...but many people don't know there is a good population and large bream in Calaveras here in San Antonio.
