Posted a comment/inquiry in one of the forums. (below) Have yet to receive a reply, just wondering why. My ten (10) old son and I thought we might get some comments and suggestions for our upcoming trip.
How about guys, another thoughts?
"Spent whole summers from early 80's to late 80's in Corpus Christi, mostly fishing Mustang Island fishpass with my Grandfather, occasionally Bob Hall pier. Only been back a couple of times since then for short periods. Already considering a guided trip, but need some suggestions on pier/jetty fishing. I have been talking up and showing some pictures of the area and how much fun I had with my son and daughter. I want to pre-plan as much as possible to maximize the fishing. Spring Break with family, wife also fishes,11 year old boy and 6 year old girl. A couple of times, we went on a boat (party type boat) just in the bay for a moring or afternoon. Someone still doing that? Also, we used to make on own leaders, but I am having difficulty finding the supplies on line.
Looking forward to your comments."

You can find all the supplies you need for leaders at Academy. I can't help you with the Corpus area, sorry I'm not from around there. Sounds like you got a good plan. Old man use to say plan your work and work your plan.

There are jetties at packery channel and port aransas, party boats run out of port aransas also. don't know much on piers, there are many bay guides in that area.

Your handle OKLAWYER probably scares most off. I guess to start with you need to specify a time span. There are numerous piers and jetties in the area from Port A to Padre Island. Do you have a 4wd vehicle?? Are you prior or current Military??

Went to your original posting - 16-20 March is still a tough time. Most surf reports list pretty much Whiting as the only fish biting with regularity. Gulf piers are essentially fishing the surf from a fixed platform. Same can be said of jetties. A guided inshore trip is going to get you some reds and trout and possibly drum plus sand trout. Inshore full day is going to cost about $550 +/- for 4 people. Offshore probably $800-1000 unless on a party boat. Other than that watch the message boards to see what people are posting. I might be going to Corpus this weekend and if I do, I'll PM you on the results. Some good reports on fishing report at Corpus Christi caller-times newspaper site for fishing for Sheepshead at the jetties. Trick is to fish very close to the rocks and be ready to lose plenty of gear. BTW - use fresh dead (or live if you can find it) shrimp. If fresh dead, soak some of the shrimp for 30 minutes in Big Red Soda prior to use. Supposedly the Reds and drum love the vanilla taste.

we always took the kids to bob hall when they were on spring break. they had a good time regardless of what they caught. there is also caldwell pier at port aransas and a jetty there too. there are slos other piers in corpus itself . on the highway going to padre island there are some baithouses and they have piers also. i have read that at clems bait house on the pier there they have been catching black drum. last i read they had caught like 50 this week alone. the pier is along the intercoastal waterway and the laguna madre. alos mentioned is the packery channel area on padre island. i am sure some people in that area can tell you how to get there. i have read that some have had their limits on specs there this week too. water temp right now at bob hall is 64 degrees and been going up every day. now last summer we fished bob hall several times a week and came up with a good assortment of fish. our last trip in november resulted in 22 pompano 4 black drum legal size and 1 slot red. we also caught a ton of spanish mackeral, have seen king fish and tarpon brought in too. at the jetties in port aransas last yr soemone caught 2 marlin off of there. we can not wait to go again. we are now in our 60s and the jetties are too hard for us

Fish pass only exists in name on the map, completely sanded/silted in... Packery Channel was dredged out & re-opened with a real nice jetty. They built it pretty tight & only for small boat access to the Gulf, The fishing is decent... nothing like the Port A Jetty's. I was down there last July for the Kingfish run & wanted to try out the new Packery Channel access... Bad juju... Watched a Bertram 50 run aground on what "should" have been the channel within the markers. I'm just running a Montauk 17 Boston Whaler. Launched when the tide was out... good thing I got a trailer that can dump the boat off, Launched in 18" of water, Front tires were at the bottom of the ramp... back tires were back there the outboard shoulda been & the trailer fenders weren't even underwater yet... Even after I got away from the ramp, I was only marking 2'-4' in the large area by the bridge, The only place I found any "Deep" water was hitting 6-8' in the swift outbound current coming under the bridge
With the Jetty being so tight and narrow, the end was Hairy with the outbound tide, took 3 over the bow before I could get out of the washing machine! I've seen the Port A Jetty "Rough" with an outbound tide but the Packery Channel was insanity!
I tried to be normal but it got boring so it's just back to being ME~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Never argue with an Idiot, They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

Sorry about my delay in responding. Thanks for all the great information and comments. Rods/reels/some tackle packed. Hope Bass Pro/Academy in San Antonio is not sold out, Saltwater supplies a little sparce in Edmond Oklahoma. My kids are counting down the hours to departure, me too. Have one, possibly two locals who have offered to take us out on their boats so we will probably get the full range of fishing in.
I can't recall who inquired, but I have been to Ft. Knox, Ky in January and not for vacation. (US Army Reserves) However, I have been out for years now. Funny thing, I still have a habit of calling people by their last name.
Thanks again to everyone. Keep safe.
