Hey Allan W... I'll try out the amber 2 this weekend. I'm trying to decide on either Choke or Amistad. Is that you coming out with a new sportsman's radio show on Saturday mornings?

I had some trouble seeing the SI in the bright sunlight, I tried some different colors but none were as bright as I thought they should be. It looked great later in the afternoon as it clouded up a little. I had the brightness all the way up and played around a little with some of the other controls. I will try some of the other colors next time out.

Looks like I need to send it back to Humminbird for one minor problem, the left SD card slot doesn't want to pop the card out. I have to get a pair of needle nose pliers to get it out. Right side works fine. I'm sure they will take care of it, hopefully won't take to long.

Anybody else hook up an interlink to the 898? I couldn't get the 898 to recognize it. Looked for a software download but none listed for my unit at HB website.

The differnce between the 898 and the 997-998 is that the 898 has a 7 inch screen with 4000 watts of power...the 997-998 has a 8 inch screen with 8000 watts of power...1197 10.4 inch screen with 8000 watts..more watts better resolution...all great units...great idea to make some that are a little more affordable...can't wait to get mine...

898 has the same power as the 998, 8000 watts Peak to Peak, 1000 watts RMS. ONLY difference in the two is 1" of screen size. Everything else is the same. In fact the chassis itself is the same it just has a different bevel for the different glass sizes.

I have seen the statement about the power diffence between the 898 & 998 made on this forum before. I don't think that is correct. HB's web site and their customer service say they are the same as well as the dealer I bought it from. Look at the spec sheets on the HB web site. If that is wrong, HB has some splainin to do.
