Just bought two new rigs,Shimano Calcutta CTE-200GT Reel, with a KISTLER ARGON 6'9" MEDIUM CASTING ROD, want to use for crankbaits, what line would you recommend for this. Also got a Shimano Calcutta TE 250 DC, with a Kistler Helium 7'6" Heavy casting rod, model He76HC. I haven't put either together yet, these are my first bait-casters, yea I am probably nuts, so what reels with what rods would you pair, and what lines on each? I am going to jig and pig one set up, and then the other for cranks.

Thanks for any help you can provide

Sell the calcuttas and buY yourself two Abu Garcia Revo stx. one in a 6:4:1 for cranks and one in a 7:1:1 for flipping and pitching jigs. Spool 14lb Lake Fork Tackle florohybrid FH on the 6:4:1 and 50lb power pro on the 7:1:1.

Depends on how thick the cover is you're going to fish. But I would say for the cranks, a 12 to 20 lb fluoro, I like P-Line products. For jigging, I like braid myself.

This is just my opinion and someone who fishes a lot of tournaments may think otherwise. First off wow..... would you like to adopt me? Secondly...I'd send one back and get a higher gear ratio for jig & pig (I like 7.1). Use whichever one you keep for your CB rod with the 6'9" rod. Put the other on the longer stiffer rod. I like braid on my jig and pig rig. Personally I'd go with like 12-15# Berkley Big Game on the CB. You might try flouro though and see if you like it.

dude when i got my first baicaster i got some trilene extra smooth casting stuff 10 lb test but one time i got hung up in a tree and the clip that i tied on broke before the line did. and another time i got stuck in a floating vegitation bed kinda thing? probably weighed 500 lbs and the line pulled the thing right up to the shore so i could get it out. thats what i'm recomending but i would listen to someother peoples opinions

must of been a cheap lure...idk how many cranks and other nice lured i've lost on 12lb. & 14lb. line. mono's pretty tuff the higher up you go, but castability and amount that will fit on the spool suffers. i caught a nice bass one time that had to have weighed atleast 4.5lbs. i'm thinking 6lbs, but 4.5 is proly more realistic. got me hung up and it took like 15min. to finally get it in the boat. i had on 17lbs. test that day an i'm glad i did cuz otherwise i woulda lost the fish my lure. i ended up cuttin off about 5ft. of line re-tieing after that. i'm thinking about giving braid a shot on my flipping rod, jst haven't done it yet. is 65lbs. and 80lbs. braid really neccesary...i'm thinking 20lbs.

Personally I'm happy with 50# braid for my flipping. It's about the diameter of 14# mono. I don't have any problems with breakoffs. If you get hung up and can't tear it free you will have to cut the line, it's not going to break. The 20# your talking about is very small diameter. I use it on my spinning rods.

I disagree, braid is best in my opinion for topwaters--especially for frogs.

+1

All I use is Seaguar... I have 10lb on my cranking rod right now, sometimes I'll go with 12 or 14 depending on the lake. 20lb on my tx-rig and jig rods. You don't say where you're from, but I've been hard-pressed to find spots on metroplex lakes where I need anything heavier than that.
