I bought one today atthe Walmart. It was $10. It has a pin that slides out to mark the depth, but it will release in the case of a larger fish pulling drag. Check them out. http://www.zebco.com/products/sldl10.html

I had one of the triggerspins and it's junk. Shakespeare makes a better reel.

I have 2 of the spincast and 2 of the spinning reels that I have had for several years. They work great. I use them when minnow fishing with kids in the boat. Have landed some pretty good sized fish with them w/o problems. I would not recommend them for your goto rigs however.

Zebco changes the name on them every year, it seems. They work great until a really cold day, then the pins (that set the depth) break. I wish someone would build a nicer version. I really like the concept, and these do work great until they break.

I used to have one and used it when slip fishing only. I fish slips from Oct-April every year and that reel lasted exactly one year. The bail got really weak on it and wasn't closing correctly. However, I caught some 2 lb fish on it and for the price it's worth it. If a better model comes out I may give it a whirl as I like the concept a lot and worked well

I have both the original grey model and the bill dance orange models. Bud is right the depth setting pins will eventually shear right off.
The reel is actually a superb tool for targeting known depths holding fish. It is also great for not letting your neighbors know how deep you are fishing. For the price and the amount of abuse I put on them I'll say they are a reasonable investment. Just be easy on the pins and it should last a good amount of time.

I am field tester for Zebco and I helped them with those reels. The problem I had was that the string would wrap around the drag adjustment knob. I just take a rasp and file down the shoulders on the knobs and that fixes the problem. I recommended that they fix it but they must have had thousands already made and didn't change it. I told them I am glad they put Bill Dance's name on them and not mine. I have caught literally thousands of crappie on mine and like some said, the pins will eventually break but not after many many fish. I have gotten all of mine free up to now but they have cut back on supplying testers. I have not seen any for sale since Bass Pro dropped them. Some of mine are worn out and I need some more.
