Thanks!!! The last two years we've went for some reason cathing them has been challenging. Not sure if its the lures or what but we are going the last weekend in March so I hope to do better.

Curiosity got me after only making it a few miles up the river last week so today made the trek up the Colorado. It was a beautiful day and wanted to pass on pics of the trip up to the bend by 20' boat.
The mouth is the shallowest stretch getting to two feet. I run about 8" in my boat and got it on plane and ran about twenty, I encountered no stumps through the flats at the mouth of the river YOUR CHOICE BE CAREFUL. Buffalo working the shallows at the mouth, was interesting to watch those big rascals. The rest of the way was smooth sailing and ran about 20 mph to the Bend. The water is an average of 5' from the mouth to Colorado Bend. Clarity is good in two or three spots, clarity actually went downhill as we sat for a few hours at the bend, apparently due to the rain upstream yesterday. Everyone I saw had a full stringer and catching appx. every ten or so casts. Only 1 fat female from everyone I spoke to. Tried several colors all the way up and the only bite was actually at the Bend above the rapids, Chartreuse and white runners seem to be the color. Rapids are passible again, be careful. Fished the opposite bank from the bankfishing folk, about twenty five out there today. The trip is about 30 minutes from Buchanan to the Bend, can imagine Spring Break will be busy at the Bend and betting female white bass will be there then. Saw several schools popping the top all the way back at dusk, hopefully clarity will help spread folk out catching them all the way up river during Spring Break. Caught whites jigging spoons at Garret Island today, water was 53 to 55 around the island, 58 up the river.

Buffalo working the flats, I assume spawning.

The Falls, this pic is from last friday.

Midway Point from mouth to The Bend, avg width of river for entire trip, 8' depth at this point.

The view downstream from Gorman Falls, avg width of river today.

Gorman Falls

View of Colorado Bend from the rapids.

WhiskerRay are your pics of the falls labeled right? I thought Gorman Falls was upstream from the park. The falls labeled Gorman are downstream towards the lake. I paddled out to them a couple of weeks ago.

You are right atx, the actual "Gorman" falls are upstream, I have always referred to the falls in the pic as the Gorman Falls since they are actually on the river and a landmark. Everyone I talk to calls those Gormans Falls, probably out of ease. Hopefully noone else is confused by my titles.

Drove up yesterday morning. Got on the water around 10:00. The river was quite murky and got worse as the day progressed. Fishing was steady for about 2 hours then slowed considerably. Left around 3:30 with a limit of mostly males.

Lure selection:
Storm Wild Eyed Shad (white/clear w/ red chin)
white jig with pink/red head, black eye
curly tail jig (pink/red head with black eye white curly tail) roadrunners (same color combination.

Note: The ramp, as mentioned several times before, has a steep drop off. Large boats/trailers beware! Glad I had my 12' in my truck & didn't trailer it up.

Great info and pics Ray. Just wondering if you saw in more boat traffic from the lake on your trek up the the river?

We did the best using the red head, dark green body, chartreuse tail roadrunner... Don't know why, but the majority of larger fish we caught were with this color. Caught only a couple with all chartreuse and one of our guys caught some with all white.

Smoke/grey was the color of the day when I was up there last weekend.
Of course when they get to biting good, I don't think it matters.

Headed out in the morning when I get off work, hopefully the water will have cleard a little by then.

Bill
