Hello there. I am needing some ideas for structure at boat slips for crappie cover. I have searched all the neighbors slips for tree clippings on the dock, to no avail. Since I like to fish all the time and can't find anyone else interested, I go to the docks and just hum haw around because there is no brush to find. I am thinking of pvc type structures that I could make and drop. It will be a little hard to get down the walkway but I'll figure it out. At one time I found some homemade ideas and now I can't find anything but manufactured pvc systems. Would appreciate any advice or offers to help

you need to find some hardwood or bamboo to line that slip of yours. also pvc structures are alos a good idea. line ur slip all the way around and you should be able to connect with those crappie all yr. long....how deep is your slip?

Rod, I saw the bamboo topic earlier but where in Oklahoma (s. central) do you find that stuff? The slips run from 8'to 30'+ from the best I can tell. I have access to most of them so I'm watching (and waiting) to see when they start biting at certain depths. I also fish Ardmore, OK city lakes and no luck with crappie yet. Tried Murray also, only sandies so far. Thanks for your reply. Posted some time back but seemed like nobody cared ps. I don't fish for bass, like my crappie!

crappiegal,
Cedar trees and willow trees make excellent structure. I usually use cedar trees about 5-7 ft. tall. Wire a cinder block to the base of the tree in the middle of it and drop it down. You will be able to catch some crappie there at Buncome if you sweeten your slip. If the slip is real deep you might want to suspend some of the structure using a rope.

crappiegal, i just sank 2 bamboo buckets next to the boathouse with the red poles after meeting the owner at the buncombe boat ramp. me and my buddies make a ton of those things and sink 'em all over your arm of the lake. we tend to put 'em out away from the boathouses so we don't annoy the owners. in doing so we've become friends with several owners and keep them in brush year round. we'd be happy to help if you need it. one tip for right now is to fish about 1' to 3' off the bottom whether there is brush or not. we catch alot of fish away from the brush.

Why tie the block to the middle of the tree???? Don't crappie like standing structure???? Tie a coke bottle to the suspended strusture to keep it off the bottom.
God loves you just as much as anybody else!!

I usually take the double cinder blocks, stuff a bunch of cedar limbs in the holes and then fill the holes with quick mix concrete. Works like a charm. You can also make them as bushy or vertical as you want without worryin about gettin hung up in wire associated with lashing. Hope this helps

Angler M., I guess you've met Tom. When I spoke with him Saturday he said they had been catching some around the fish cleaning place and I should be able to catch them off the slip I use. I tried anywhere from 1-5' off bottom and in all depths up and down the slips, figured no bites due to no cover.
I'd like to take you up on your offer to help. I'll be there Sat and if another time would work for you then p.m. me for my #.
I am willing to pay you because this would make for year- round fun! Thanks so much to everyone trying to help.
I just received an email about my city lakes from Dept of Wildlife and they informed me spider blocks were put in last year around the docks. So I'm off to research what spider blocks are. Thanks again.
