We all have them...nice lures that would catch fish at that specific time and place. But, they cost $6, and you can't justify hanging a $6 lure (or whatever the dollar amount). So, you never fish the bait. Afraid you will lose it.

What baits will you not throw in fear of losing them?

Any thing that cost over 10 buks for me swimbaits clacker rattle traps stuff like that I don't even like throwing those hollow belly swimbaits because you only get 3 for 10 buks and those things don't last that long.but I try not to even buy stuff over 6 any more

$10 bucks? That's it? The baits that I don't really want to lose are either swimbaits or those lucky craft cranks at $15-20 a piece. Man they work, but it's expensive to keep on replacing if you lose them.

I don't buy baits that I wont throw. Just get a lure retriever.

+1

I've gotten over not buying expensive baits. But that is one reason I won't buy Lucky Craft, I have what I need with H2O baits. But I did buy 8 Sebile swimmers... so there you go. One way I started to justify buying expensive baits is by calculating how much I spent on soft plastics. At $3 to $5 per bag, and I was buying hundreds and hundreds of $$$ per year. Where as 1 hard bait can literally last for many fishing trips. So there were times I would only fish Sebile baits trip after trip, there was $10 to $30 not used in soft plastics. It may be goofy reasoning, but it worked for me grin

Same here. If they are in my boat, I will use them. Why bother to buy them if you don't plan to use them?

I just bought a hard bodied H2O swim bait I dont plan on throwing it anywhere near timber, will throw it over grass beds and flats and will make sure that the line is new.

I bought some expensive flutter zpoons. First I changed out the hooks replacing the originals with smaller hooks. Then I just fish them on a rod spooled with 30lb Big Game. The plan is to be able to straighten the hook and pull the spoon free if/when I stick it in a tree.

I throw relatively expensive baits, huddleston's, bbz's,ac minnows alot ($25 to $35) with no fear. I lose a couple a year, big deal! With the cost of gas to and from the lake, the cost of plastics, hooks, sinkers and lost jigs, a boat and all, it's a drop in the bucket to lose 50 to 100 bucks A YEAR in lures compared to everything else, especially considering the quality fish I catch on these expensive lures. GET A GOOD PLUG KNOCKER and QUIT WORRYING!

Ya'll spend more in a trip or two on gas for your truck and boat than what you'll lose in big swimbaits in a year and the end result (Quality Fish) is what you're shooting for...why let a hundred bucks a year get in the way?

If you're afraid of losing them then why buy them? I've never understood why someone would spend $10-$60 or more on one lure and then not throw it. Same as the guy that comes up to a Par 3 over water and starts digging for a "water" ball. With that attitude, you're defeated before you ever hit that shot.

If you feel that a high dollar lure will give you an edge, then by all means spend the money and use the sucker!

I make the decision before I ever hit the check stand that I will fish what ever I am buying, any where I think it will catch fish. If I feel I would be taking a chance fishing it where the fish are, I see no reason to buy it.
