Has anyone ever fished Joshua Creek Ranch outside of Boerne?

Yes, stayed there once for an extended weekend about 15+ years ago, lots of big stocker trout that will readily/easily take a well presented wooly bugger. There was a little fly shop/souvenir shop in the compound. First time I've heard of trout in the hill country other than the Guad. You should see the water boil during feeding time. Nice folks running the place. Great for bird hunting as well from what I've heard. Boerne is a very nice. It was a gift from the in-laws knowing I like to fly fish.

Here is the web$ite: http://www.joshuacreek.com/ Wow! Glad I didn't pay for that, but I'm sure its more expensive now compated to 15+ years ago. You really don't need a guide unless you've never held a fly rod ever, I guess.

Casting for Recovery has held their Texas retreat there each year for the last five years, in mid April. Soon thereafter, the water gets too warm for the trout and they either get caught and kept or die off. They've deepened the creek in the last few years, so it's harder to wade but easier to fish from the banks. I think they now also stock bass there. Beautiful Hill Country setting, willing fish.

Never fished that property, but the Guad below Waring is quite near there and lovely. (free too, though just bass and sunfish)

Yes, I have fished it, in Dec 2009. The river was WAY down and fished the pond below the Main Lodge Building's Pro Shop. Water was a very milky color. If I recall used charteruse wooly's and caught several, not a bunch of fish. Rainbows lacked almost any color, almost silver. Kinda odd, much better wing shooting than fishing, at least that visit.

Thanks and Gig'em, Mark Fairchild
