First, I'd like to say that I am a fairly novice fisherman, only get out 6 - 8 times a year.

I will be fishing with my best friend in West Tennessee the last weekend of this month. It's a small company tournament (25 boats)on a smaller body of water (1000 acre). The lake has two major arms, with lily pads on the North end of each. Anyway, the tournament has been won in the pads for the past 3 season. So, I'm gonna try my luch in there.....

The pads are obviously not full blown this time of year, so I'm asking what type of baits would you be throwing in there. Each field is about 15 acres of pads.

Thanks,
Ron

Spro Frogs

There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the boat looking like an idiot.

I'm assuming water temps haven't risen that much and the pads won't be completely developed by the end of this month. There might be a few though. I would start out with a moving bait to see if they are active. Then switch to a senko or fluke type bait and deadstick it around the pads. I would also try a tx rigged lizard and fish it slooooow. By the end of this month, water temps will probably be high enough that there should be spawning activity taking place in your area. If they are getting on the beds fairly thick, a fast moving bait might not get whacked. A frog fished slowly over their head or even a topwater bait might get busted too. Anyway, that's how I would plan for the bite but weather over the next few weeks and water temps will play a big role in what eventually happens.
