I have never been fishing @portA jetty, but would like to take my grand son over to the coast to try. So if someone could give me a clue WHAT-WHERE-And how that would be great. You know Grandpa's alway's have to look good for there grand kid's. I do know how to fish , just never been fishing around this coast.I commercially fished the Pacific for Salmon, Halibut,Albacore,King Crab, and alot more, but that doesn't do me a damn bit a good here!!!!

Pretty much the whole central coast is about the same temps (61 at Bob Hall Pier - Corpus). Friends in Corpus say the surf has whiting, more whiting, more whiting and an occasional pompano. Things are changing though as the water warms up. Best area fishing for the next 3-4 weeks is here. http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/4576403#Post4576403

Use dead shrimp on the bottom on the surf side in between the fist and second guts. The slow moving bottom fish are hitting(whiting, sand trout, red's, black drum) and the occasional Pompano. If you have large weights, set soak some cracked crabs on the bottom of the channel side.

BTW - some of the best dead shrimp w/ heads on can be found HEB for $2.99 - 3.99 a pound. Soak some of the shrimp for 30 minutes in Big Red soda prior to use.

There should still be a few sheepshead around the rocks at Port A. Hit best on live shrimp either freelined or under a popping cork. Otherwise, I agree with some of the others to fish the 2nd gut on the south jetty surf side and catch a stringer full of whiting. Shouldn't have too much trouble with hardheads yet. The cracked crab might get you an oversized black drum on the channel side as it is time for their annual run. Good luck.

Hook'em and then reel them in!....for the record.

I'd wait until May. The water should be closer to 70 degrees by then. Warmer water means more species moving back in.

When fishing from the rocks you should try an assortment of artificials early in the morning and then free-line live baits such as mullet, piggy perch, croakers, shrimp, etc. Free-lining will keep your terminal tackle out of the rocks.

If you're going to fish on bottom then use heavy enough gear to cast out, beyond the rocks. When you retrieve you need to reel up hard and fast to get above the rocks and don't stop.

Try lemon-rigs too. Search "lemon-rig" on this site and you'll find how to do it. Good luck.
