I'm new to bass fishing. Are there ponds in the Garland area to practice bass fishing skills? Until very recently, I have been using live bait only. People tell me that artificial is the way to go if you want to catch bigger fish. Is this true?
Does Breckenridge park or Springfield park hold any bass?

I've lived in Garland for many years, and I've never really known of any good public ponds for bass fishing there. I go outside of the city to get my bass fishing fix.
Ablon Park (near I-30 and almost into sunnyvale) used to be decent for bass. But it is pretty much depleted these days. Can't really think of anything else off the top of my head.

Thank you for the responses. I have a feeling that all the bass around these parts are in areas fisherman can't access. What's the worst thing that could happen when fishing in a golf course? Only kidding, I wouldn't do that. Google maps shows a decent size pond or small lake near Campbell Rd and Jupiter. It is located behind Big Springs Elementary. I might see if public can access that area. My experience has shown that most people that live around ponds in the city only use them for scenery anyways.

The pond you are referring to is a private pond which is surrounded by houses with no public access that I have been able to find. You might try Bethany Lakes in Allen. There are bass and they even stock trout sometimes.

That pond is located off I-30 and Northwest to be exact. It's about 1/2 east from I-30 off Northwest.

Great, thanks for the tip on the pond. I'll check that out once the weather warms up. I've got a friend that lives in Mesquite that I will take out there. He's new to fishing. It would be great to enable him to land a big one, so that he can see what it's all about.
I know what you mean about the influence that catching fish at a young age has AA bass. A friend of mine asked me to help volunteer working the Kid's fish tank at the Dallas boat show over the weekend. It was fun just watching the kid's faces as they would catch a fish. You'd have thought they had just won the lottery. Now,there's probably lots of future anglers as a result of that little pool holding fish.

According to the TPWD website, it hasn't been restocked since 2004.
Some people on the TFF have done well at Palos Verdes, but I've never had any luck there myself. IMO it's not the kind of pond you should spend a lot of time at for bass.
Samuell Farm down the road has a far better population of bass in a few of their ponds. One of the ponds is chocked full of 2-4 lb bass. A couple of the more secluded ponds have some real lunkers.

There is a pond on the hike and bike trails in between O'Bannion Rd. and Duck Creek Drive. I have never fished there, so I have no idea if it is even stocked.
