How deep do I need to be fishing this time of the year. I'm taking my daughter fishing for the first time so I really want to get her on some fish.

Really depends on the day and where you are going to really. If main lake then deeper water then coves that are warming up quicker since the spawn isnt too far away. Some post on here are showing fish in 10-15ft and other places just a few feet. If you state where you are going or at least a lake it may help with giving more info

I'm fishing in lake livingston going to try out around the state park in about 20 feet with lots of cover its back in a cove, that or I'm going to run back up to kickapoo creek and fish there. It ranges from 20 to 3 feet but with all the rain the creek is going to be real muddy. This will be my daughters first real fishing trip so I want to do all I can to make it a great one for her

I don't think you can get a definitive answer to that one. Friday afternoon I caught some really good fish in 2' of water on a jig and slip cork. Today we got em in 22' on jigs near the bottom.

Where were you planning on going and will you be fishing out of a boat. If we know that maybe we can help. I hope so because I sure would like to see your daughter catch some fish. I have 2 teenage girls myself and some of my best memories was taking them out when they were little.

Hey James,

I started early with my daughters too, good for you. I tell you what, bank fishing may be the ticket. I would bring a net to catch minnows, butterflys/insetcs, whatever. The idea is to go exploring, have different things that are fun to do. Have snacks. Sometimes digging a hole and putting dirt in a bucket, netting some tadpoles or minnows. They can look and play with a little fish for a long time. You can go out in the boat too, but it won't be for long. Once I had them move the minnows with a minnow net from the bucket to a live well, gave me some time to fish. Then she caught more fish then anyone. Talking about things pointing them out and not just fishing for hours is the key. When they are done they are done, time to do something else. Just my experience, I am sure you will have a great time.

Karpbuster is right on, make catching fish the least important part of the trip. Remember at the age their attenion span is very short. Just make everything fun and enjoy every minute of it you can because it will be gone before you know it.

When I took my granddaughters for the first time the 4 and 6 yr olds had a great time taking minnows from the bucket and counting them. The 7 yr old who was always wanting to wear a dress and high heels turned into a fishin fool just like grandpa. What a fun day for us all !!!

Well we went out today between the wind and it just being to cold out we didn't even bother to put the boat in. We did do some fishing but running after the ducks was more fun but then the rain moved in. So no fish but one of the funnest fishing trips of my life and can't wait to do it again
