I can't believe it's gonna happen. Totally unacceptable, and I will never forgive them. I hope there will be some serious payback come election day, at the very least.

That just really sssuuuccckkksss!!! So many folks are gonna be so angry and saddened. And to think that they are going to build a "Pier" for compensation of closing down the pass. Oooooooooohhhhhhh.......wow........that is eally going to make every happy. Sure do look forward to that fishing pier, "NOT" !!!
Sorry, it just really ticks me off. Had to blow some steam there.
I agree with you too LRS.....VERY and TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!!!

i feel as bad as the rest of yall. i am 60 now and that is where i learned to fish at age 5. i can remember catching golden croaker by teh buckerfuls. if they fill it in maybe enough of us can come with our shovels and dig it back up. better to laugh than cry about it. ike took a lot of the areas that i grew up in . i still have the memories but when i go to visit these places it has all changed and i am saddened by it all

I havent seen the credible science to back up their claims. They are still going to have beach erosion.
Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.

The application is before the Army Corps of Engineers for approval. So anyone who says when or if it will be closed can not be for certain. They are guessing. That being said I have heard from several well connected people the Patterson wants it closed and is going to get it done. To appease the people they are talking about a lighted fishing pier and or a gulf based boat launch. I have no idea if fishing would be any good in that location on a pieronce the pass is closed or not. As far as a gulf based launch I say why there? After the buyout of destroyed homes there won't be much in that area. No Gas for one. From talking to the well connected I am given the impression that it does not matter what we say the deal is being run buy the millionaire beachfront property owners. If they build a Gulf based launch they might as well build it at High Island. Closer to fuel, bait and East Texas. If you come from Galveston why would you drive to Rollover to launch for an offshore trip. You would go out of Galveston or Bolivar. Course nothing the government ever does makes any sense. My opinion is a launch at rollover would serve very few, unless they build a big State Park RV center there. That in and of itself would be just as stupid as there is no intrastructure there nor is there going to be anytime soon. No stores or anything else. Why would they want to encourage anyone to build in an area that will be gone again in the next storm. It wouldn't take much of a storm to close 87 at 124 anyway.

Bolivar Rat is right. The GLO wants you to believe it is a done deal. In truth, it has to be approved by the Army Corps of Engineers FIRST before ANYTHING can be done. If you object, you need to contact the Army Corps of Engineers and express your disapproval. Then you need to use your power of voting because the Land Commissioner position that Jerry Patterson holds is an elected seat! Vote Tuesday and vote again in November!
BolivarRat, it DOES matter what we say. They are trying to put a pier in the same place to keep people coming to Gilchrist. I am involved in this process and if you have any suggestions, please feel free to let me know, we have been trying to solicit public input.

Bolivar Rat How and where do we vote? My wife and I live in Lufkin, Tx. Is there a website to place our vote in? Having or building a pier is NOT going to do the community that much good. In a pier, you have limited space, lesser options of how to fish. Its soooooo inconvinient on a pier. People like my wife and I love to camp out and have quick access to fish. Several of us like to pop up our tents and place our fishing lines right in front of our tents. In a pier you CAN NOT do that. You cant camp out on a pier. And that really takes the fun out of fishing and camping out. People like us love to come down there to camp out, sleep at night next to the rush of water passing in front of us and waking up to the rush of water to fish at. Lots of folks go down to Roll OVer Pass for that reason, to CAMP OUT !!! Thats my suggestion . Oops, mine and my WIFE's !!!

I hope the Army Corps of Engineers don't approved the closing.

Nothing can replace the uniqueness of ROLLOVER PASS!
There is no other place on the Texas Gulf that you can set up your Lights, Camp, and Fish right out of the back of your truck or car.
No one would drive a long distance to fish a pier there. When they could drive to Alabama and fish a brand new state of the art Gulf Fishing Pier.
How long do we have before we lose a National Treasure?
