Well the weeks over and I want to thank all those that took me up on my end of a winter special. I ended up fishing 5 days this week and every day had 4 things in common..1- Pretty nice weather 2- tons of fish found 3- good company 4- although we found fish everywhere, not alot bites.
One thing I did learn is to sleep late and fish late...most of the fish we did catch didnt start biting until after about 2pm.
Most days our fish came on flukes but did get a few on sassys. Fished bait only sparingly this week but did catch a few in the short time we did it.
BTW bait is very very easy to get right now.I pull the boat up to the tackle box and have them load the tank with shiners smile Bait is still tough to catch but shiners are working when you drop-em down
I did go one day way up north and fish between the bridges and north of the hwy 70 bridge...Water up north is pretty clean on the west side near little glasses but gets muddy towards the Johnson /Newbery creek sides. South of the RR Bridge is very clean and lots of fish.
Water out west was pretty clear to cedar bayou but stay along the south banks as it gets muddy towards the Ok shoreline. West of cedar bayou is still pretty muddy.
Yesterday we did catch fish in the muddy water at cedar bayou.
Water temps are rising and I saw it up to 47 yesterday.
One thing (among many others) I find strange is that fish dont seem to be in the creeks..This time of year my records say I typically am catching a lot of fish in and near the mouth of the big creeks. but for me they just dont seem to be there.
I did get a report form one of my other guys that he was catching fish in Little mineral but I just aint having any luck in the creeks out west.
I also have reports of some fish being caught along the rocks from the cross to Caney creek. I spent one day there and did catch a few myself.
Still the biggest congregation of fish remains in the main river channels down deepbut when you can find them suspended that when they will bite.
Im thinking with the warm up this week and some forecasted warm rains the waters gonna heat up a bit more and maybejust maybe then the fishing will get good again

JD,

This is really odd! You writing reports that I'm reading on a Saturday morning in March. I called off my trip this AM after two days of Fishin' but not Catchin'. Hoping like you said that the next few days it breaks wide open. If it doesn't, guess I'll have to start Cat Fishing as that's about all folks on Richland Chambers are catching now.

Good Luck and It's Almost Spring!!!:)

Thanks,
Royce & Adam Simmons

JD, Now that is a good honest report. Hope the bite picks up there soon.
Fishermen are ready to test their skills since it is now March and the weather is getting decent. The trouble is that the fish aren't in the mood yet.
I have not taken out a customer yet this year. Three different parties wanted to go this weekend, and I told them we could go and all they could expect was a boat ride. I hope they call back when we can put them on fish! Went out once this week and caught a few, but not enough for customers. Found big schools of whites and hybrids and they would bite if the plastic stayed in the zone long enough. It was just too slow to be interesting.
Royce, Hope to hear a good report from your lake soon. Lewisville is usually about a week slower to warm up.

Thanks for the report JD...Looking at the weather might be up in the am...Well which way do I go??? North??Mid Lake???West???
If i could only see the back ground in the pic in the other report I could narrow it down....Thanks for the tips I will see what we can stir up.My last trip the only bait I could catch fish on was a 6" Rip Tide sassy bait in Glow or chart on a 1 1/2 oz head right on the bottom....Been fishing in the same area I have been for the past few months...25 to 30ft..Not alot of bites but enough to keep me going back.We will see!!!

Ok.. finally something positive to report.. Today was not great but substantially better then it has been. I saw water temps up to 49 degrees. We started out by the 377 bridge on the south ledge and drifted north.. as we hit the ledges we would get bites and hookups everytime.. We were drifting flukes and shiners everyother rod and all day long both live and artificials were hit equally.
key today was to be very very patient...which I usualy am not smile smile
Continued that same pattern west of the bridge and worked there as well.
water is just stained out west now and tons of fish but still slow and steady action today ws the best we could do...but dang at least it was action smile

Royce I feel your pain smile
Seems like its been a long cold winter and tough fishing on every lake this year.
But it wont be long till all the reports start coming in and pics flowing with fish flopping all over the docks.. and people complaining how hot it is and how sore their arms are from catching hhundreds of fish...by then this will all be forgotten smile smile
I know I may forget this winter but it's definately left a scar smile

JD,I drove over the 377 bridge there must have been 30 boats out there. We went to south of little city Ok.cught 5 stripers and 2 sandi off the bank.fished for 5 hrs.Had 2 10' poles get slammed down but the fish wasn't hooked, the odd thing was they never came back to hit the bait again.I've never seen stripers this frisky before!I'll be off the same point again next week, that slough off of timberhill rd.is very very hot!

Where is Little city?? Another new spot on Texoma I dont know about smile
timberhill road???? man if it aint on the water then i have no idea where it is smile smile

ya saturday the traffic was a little heavy...but not like it will be in a few months smile

I spent most of yesterday monring just east of 377 and then the afternoon west of there.

Today (Sunday) was slightly better than yesterday...I had a 2 boat trip today and tween both boats we cleaned 44 fish. a few overs but mostly box fish.
I did notice today some of the bigger fish are looking very skinny again...I guess from not eating lately.. they look like they normally do in the late summer. Out of 44 fish not a single one had anything in their bellies today.
Fished the same spots today and water temps were tween 45-49 degrees...warming a little each day..yahooo !!
All fish caught on shiners today...didnt do any lure fishing
Got the same 2 boat trip tomorrow.. hopefully it will be even better !!!

JD,

We had a great time fishing with you and you certainly gave it your all my friend. You gave us A LOT of great instruction and information, and we are all better fishermen for it. I look forward to coming back soon with Johnathan for that morning topwater action you told us about. Got a couple of big Zara Spooks that I haven't thrown in awhile.

BTW, if I do ever get approved for an In-N-Out burger franchise down here I'll let you know cheers

Ronnie
