I grew up fishing that lake. But lots has changed since I've moved on. I hear that you have to pay a pretty price just to get in the gates now. Back when that was my stomping ground there was no fees to use the park area or the lake.

Fishing good? Going to depend if you are in a boat or not.
In a boat, you have a good chance of catching some small bass or crappie.
Not in a boat, go fish for cats on the guadalupe.

Thanks for the info. I have a Sea Eagle inflatable, so I can get around the lake. Might give it a try.

I have spent some time out there...

You do have to pay if youre not a resident of Boerne or if you get there before the guy charging. I would get there about sunrise and never had to pay, although it has been bout 1.5 yrs since Ive been out there. I have always done well up towards the "river" portion of the lake on the north side of the lake. Although I did find a 7-8lb bass that had tried to eat to big of a perch and they both were flopping on the surface by the dam. Guess thats where the big ones are.

I loved going out there to get away from the skiers and jet fleas in my jon boat. Would suggest to go small on size of lures. I did really well with 4-6in plastics, worms and craws.

Good Luck if you go, I've been wanting to get back out there.

I live in Boerne and have fished it many times. About the best thing I can say about the lake is it's close by. If you fish the banks you will catch one maybe two fish. This is one of those lakes where you have to fish the humps, creek channel & open water. The fishing used to be decent but I think too many people are keeping what they are catching, but that is their choice. Just make sure your batteries are charged real well before heading out, the wind blows pretty good out there some days. To answer your question about being worth your time? Only if you don't like driving 2 hours to Choke Canyon. Boerne Lake is probalby one step ahead of Canyon Lake and about the same as Medina as far as fish catching.

I like Boerne City Lake-of course since I live here, it's free for me. I've seen some really big bass, and caught a few decent ones, there. The most fun is August-October, when you can have a ball chasing 1-3 lb schoolers busting bait on the surface. If the bite is off, though, it can be tough. And since I'm using a canoe, I don't even bother on windy days (which hereabouts means two out of three).

I fished it from the bank a few times last year. The water is very clear so you can sight fish the pan fish we caught a ton off the swimming pier and the bank, son loved it. I found a nice point that held some 15" or so LMB but they are tough to catch from the bank. Its a nice park and lake though avoid on busy weekends.

Question: From what I understand you cannot use a gas powered motor on the lake but what if your boat has a motor (20HP) and you just don't us it. Is that permissible? or do you need to remove the motor and just use the trolling motor.

I saw others bring in larger boats to the lake but they only used trolling motor to get around the lake

I use a 18'5 Skeeter so any boat can go on, they will probalby remind you no combustion motors at the gate. I think we residents would mind if you had oil leaking off your lower unit or motor though! The lake is one of our drinking water sources.

I respect that grout-scout, No oil going on here, live up that way myself, but on a well, just never thought of fishing the lake until I got on this fishing kick. Thanks for all the info.
