We were doing well shallow in south coves in the afternoon when the water warmed-up. Nothing bigger than 4 but pretty good action for a while. Graphed some really awesome looking areas on deep drops (40 plus feet) but didn't get bit right away so we left. Sounds like we should have worked harder out deep seeing the results of BASS Champs.

A lot of fish are post spawn and have moved back out to deeper 20-25ft of water in the main creek channel. You can still find fish shallow, but depends on how warm the water has been. They will be deeper no matter what the water temp though. Good luck. I had over 50 lbs for best 5 fish fishing this way on the south end of the lake!

How is the weather their (Falcon)? I'm off shore at the moment, but will be home today or tomorrow. I haven't been to Falcon yet, but thinking of heading that way in a week or two. What lure/pattern selections could you recommend??

how can they be post spawn when the water temp is barely reaching low 60's?

I was there a month ago and saw 62 degree water in places. They've had some COLD weather since then.

B/C those fish spawn in Dec-Feb and a few in March- April so yes post spawn will be there but some shallow as well.

If you have read local reports, the spawn has been delayed this year and is not full on yet! I disagree that the majority of fish are in post spawn.

Check out Falcon Lake Tackle when you get down there. They will get you squared away with baits and give you some areas to fish. They also have a fishing report online, check out the link:

I have read the local reports as well as fished that lake since November. The water temp was in the mid 60's in December and January. It has gotten colder as the weather has in Feb. That's how I know the majority are post spawn.

I just got back from 2 weeks on Falcon and the fish are in all stages of the spawn. Pretty much everything we caught in the Salinias was post spawn, although some are still moving up. We found bedding fish on the Texas side. I would speculate that the majority of the fish have yet to spawn. When I arrived 2 weeks ago I found 64 degree water in one protected pocket on the Tx side and the temp has pretty much declined for 2 weeks due to the cold nights. The forecast is for warmer nights the next 10 days and the water should warm considerably. I look for the majority of the fish to hit the banks in the next 2 weeks.
