Tried one this morning for the first time, wore it out. Do you fish them like a rattle trap, twitch them, or what. It was windy as all get out. This time of year are they even productive? Maybe just a bad first experience.

As Jay mentioned what kind and what lake ?

I used one this past Friday and had one bite and one 9 pounder. I think they could be very productive this time of year. Because, you will have the fish protecting their fry or protecting the beds.

swimbaits take a lot of patience... my advice is, work it nice and slow until you gain some more confidence.

I was at Arrowhead, somewhat murkey. Don't know the water temp, I only use a flasher. But when I got splashed it was cooooold. I was using one of the academy H2O swim baits, Fished it sorta like a Carolina rig... Kinda... with a few twitches. Went with the wind with the swim bait and back against with a big jig. Possibly my new thing. I've always fished senkos and flukes, I want to learn something new!! Got one of those Spro Swimbaits as well as a few of the H2O's. Any advice is well appreciated, and will be used.

I feel your water may be a little bit too cold for a swimbait bite, but you're not far away from good temps. Keep throwing it. Depending on the bait, a straight medium to fast retrieve will work. I don't like to get fancy when fishing a swimbait - throw it far, reel it back, swing hard hooked

Swimbaits are more of a clear water lure and are more of a match the hatch bait. They will catch stained water fish but their effectiveness drops the more stained or murky the water is. When throwing a swimbait, the larger the swimbait the fewer the bites but those fish caught will be generally better than on other lures. Most swimbaits are most effective when retrieved like if you where slow rolloing a spinnerbait. Each one is different so you need to swim one where you can watch it to determine what speed gives the best action. California Swimbabe and Ospery type baits generally have a tail flapping action with the head vibrating some. The hollow body baits on swimming jig heads give a side to side roll action with the flapping tail and when on belly weighted hooks that action is more subtle. The jointed hard swimbaits have more of a snakey wide side to side swim action.

swimbaiting is not for everyone, but when you get that first big bite you will be hooked. Keep fishing them and something good will happen. Clearer water works best.

1+ on the clear water. its a large bait with subtle action and they create a bite mainly visually not through a vibration of the lateral line

Couldn't have said it better.

I tried one of the jointed h20 swimbaits last week for a few casts. I had found some shallow bass on a clear to moderately stained lake. I'm not 100% sure but I am pretty sure a bass swirled on it on the initial fall. I had at first thought I hooked into some grass but there was no grass on the hooks when I got it in and I did see quite a bit more water move than if I had moved some grass.
