is the bank real high at that point where the cabin is not seen very good, and a large piece of concrete at waters edge? Yes that's the spot. Kind of looks like someone tried to dam it up at one time. Went this morning and the two of us limited out within an hour and a half. Most were caught up beyond the first set of riffles and the first hard left of the river channel about one mile up. Didn't seem to matter what color we threw or what lure. It was on!

how deep is this are that yall are fishing? is it shallow enough to be wade upstream? You can wade but watch out for the deep holes and deep mud. Some of the deep holes may be hard to walk because of the steep muddy banks and heavy timber that is still standing in those narrow passages. The depth is anywhere from 6" to maybe four feet in the deeper holes, but on average probably 2 to 3 feet the entire river. Wading around the launch and up as far as you can, you should still do well enough to make it worth your while.

Hey guys, Went down last Friday. Put in @ hwy 59 bridge. Headed down stream toward lake.I fished from about 10:00 am to about 4:30 pm.I was down around the skeet shooting range. I managed about 25 whites. Most were around 11 to 11 3/4 inches. I kept 5, they were from 12 to 15 inches. Most were males very few females. They seemed to like the silver/black sr-5 & the chrome/blue back Rattle Trap. Was paid a vist by the game warden, everthing was in order. Water temp was about 59 degress, water still a little off color, strong flow. I will be heading down again this coming weekend.(maybe twice).I will try upstream next time. Anybody know any good spots upriver from 59? How far can I get my 18 ft bay boat upriver before it get to shallow or any log jams? Till next time good luck to all and stay safe! If you see me down on the Nueces come by and say hi. Tan/white Nitro Bay boat. Chief Mike.

There is a good spot up from 59. You go up past the old rusty bridge and just past all the cabins on both sides of the river and you should come to a sandbar and the water should be moving faster through that area. Thats the spot I would hit and fish throughly, and then just work your way up looking for sandbars and moving water.
That bridge looks old and I'm going to date myself by saying that I fished that river as a kid, and cars where still going across that old rickety bridge back then!

Can you walk around the sections too muddy or deep to wade in order to get farther up or will you end up on private property. It sounds like maybe the banks may be too steep to make it possible, but just curious. Have fished above Choke but never down in this area. Boat is down so I'm trying to make the best of this spring "on foot".

KillerB, that was you in the canoe on Sunday? We launched at the same time you did, and fished near you most of the day. My son, granddaughter, and I were in that 14ft aluminum Lone Star boat. We had a pretty good day, 64 whites and 3 crappie.

That was me! Congrats on your catch. After my limit, I caught and released a few more. The clouds started rolling in and the wind was picking up, so I decided to call it a day.
I'm jealous of those crappie.

Just got everything together. Leaving early in the morning. This will be another trip of many I've taken since I was in Highschool in the early 80's. Back then we would Camp at the 59 in a tent. We would run the river all the way up to the Airport boat ramp area before the ramp there was built. Those days it was common to catch 200-300 fish a day- easy. Thanks to all for the reports !! I will post a report tommorow evening. If anyone is out there tomorrow, I will be in a 14' John Boat. With a 9.5 Johnson on the back. You can't miss me- Cause Rednecks stand out Rio
My stringer is getting there!!

I only went about 300 yards up stream when I went and did pretty good with the whites. No good crappie though, I think they are further up.I could have waded up to there but the mud is very sticky in spots. It was easier to row in a foot of water than to wade in spots. I did get out and wade just to stretch the legs. Now that I know the gators are there I may not be so brave. At least when I'm in the toon, they will likely bite it first and not me, LOL.

KillerB, about those crappie, I had seen on this forum that some guys were catching a lot of crappie while they were there fishing for whites. So we decided to fish a 1/32 oz. jig about 2 foot below a cork to see if we could catch some. We did catch those 3, but the whites were going after it also. I guess the whites were beating the crappie to it. We were wondering if we would have done better on the crappie if we had brought minnows. I'm not complaining though. I like to eat whites almost as much as crappie.

Brand New to this forum.... What an awesome resource for fisherman all over Texas!!! Ok, about fishing the Nueces. I'm down here for work without a boat of any kind (staying at Choke Canyon Lodge--highly reccomend!!) and was wandering what and how to fish the walk-in areas (around bridges)and if there are any fish to be had up stream from where most of you are tearing them up.... Namely the bridge where FM 1042 crosses the Nueces... FM 1042 is the road that T's into Hwy 72 just south of Choke Canyon Reservoir and just west a few miles from Three Rivers... Any information will be greatly appreciated!!!!!! We're heading down there right now to see what we can come up with but we are absolutely clueless as to how we should approach this area of the river to fish (technique, baits, species to be had)??? Thanks in advance for any and all advice!!

Just got back from the river and cleaning another limit. That's two people fishing in two days back to back limits and before noon both days. Yesterday was better since we had two limits and were back on the trailer by 9:30. This morning it took us a little longer and we didn't cull but were out by 11:00.
We ran into Kyle and his partner, and Riotex and they went up past us upstream so the crappie and bass better watch out!
Just a word of caution! Yesterday when I launched my boat the trailer went off the edge of the launch apron downstream and my trailer was sitting in the water with one wheel down into a deep hole off the edge of the concrete. I waded out and lifted the trailer up and it was light as a feather in the water as my partner pulled foward and out of the ramp.
Today I got to the parking lot and there was a car there with the trailer all twisted and broken and the axle completely pulled away and the trailer frame all bent beyond repair, and guess what? It was that wheel on the drivers side that would have fallen off that ramp into that hole and it looks like he just gunned it and yanked it out of the launch. Bad move! Anyway I feel for him, but the positive thing about it is the boat was gone and the car and trailer were parked so he still went fishing. Now that's a true fisherman that can still fish after all that!
