I was at Bass Pro this weekend, and seen the new Micro Guide Carrot Stix. They looked pretty cool. The rod blank was just regular Orange like the original Carrot Stick, but it had a cork handle like the gold series. But I didn't realize just how tiny those micro guides were. Amazing! They are $200.00 @ BPS. I just wanted to let y'all know, since the Duckett Rods arent on the shelves in case you wanted to see a micro guide in real life. Those things are SMALL! ....But I went with the Carbon Lite, just couldnt see justification for the extra $100.

It will be interesting to see if the micro guides catch the anglers or if it is short termed. Sure is a pain to run the line thru the guides especially if you are on the water!!

It's not nearly as hard as threading a hook. We all have to do that while on the water. LOL

kestrel63, I read your link and those things seem to make sense. How are the micro guides in terms of flipping and pitching?

Some folks say that fishin on a Sunday is a sin, but if a fish bites my line, you know I'm gonna reel him on in!

Cajun Bass Buster

I have never had a complaint from 225+ builds and I personally have never experienced a problem.

Try this little experiment, which is an approximation of the guide ring with line inside.

With one hand touch the tip of your index finger to the tip of your thumb and make a circle which will represent the guide ring ID. Now hold a pen or pencil in the circle.

Hope this helps.

Is it just bait casting rods or do you use micro guides on spin cast as well?

All I seen were baitcasters. Given the design of a spinning reel, I dont see how that would work. But as far as I know, Baitcasters are the only ones, but I may be totally wrong.

Custom builders have been using them on spinning rods for a while now as well and they work great, given the same caveats as on casting rods. The first 3 or 4 guides are standard sized and the running guides are micros instead of the size 6s or 7s you normally see. I expect some time this year, you'll see some high framed spinning guides with small rings. If they perform as well as they do on casting rods, you'll be able to buy them next year from the people selling the casting rods today.

By the way, the new Carrot Sticks with micros are supposed to be very nice rods. They are completely redesigned and share nothing with the previous models except the color.
