I bought the Lowrance HDS-5 about 1 yr ago and that was when they first came out and there were all kinds of bugs. I have downloaded 2 software updates since and it seems to be ok now. Im not sure I figured everything out yet but its usable. I was wondering how others with this unit have fared and if they like them? I see the new side sonar module is out (if they dont get sued off the shelves). Anyone tried that ? Thanks BP

I have had my HDS-8 since April 03, 2009. Nothing to complain about. Took a while to learn how to use it and get the transducer set to just the right angle.

I bought mine in March last year for the bow and it took a couple of software updates to get it working well. Once I figured out the settings on it I've been very pleased with the sonar detail, separation and clarity. I've seen (and caught) fish in grass / brush / timber that I don't think my other units would have shown. Sadly though, mine died in between trips on the 21st and the 27th so when I went to power up last Saturday, I got nothing. But Lowrance is going to send out a new one, maybe pretty quickly.

Overall, I like the unit. And if I had the cash I'd buy an HD8 for the console.
