What kind of reels do you use? I have my rods and holders, and now I am looking for some reels. I thought it would be nice if they all matched. I saw academy had some daiwas on sale for 19.99 the other week. I need 5 of them, but just wanted to see what others were using.

I use the Daiwa H-100. Academy them on sale for $25.00. They are a great reel for trolling.

I look for the cheapest spinning reel that I can find that does NOT have the anti reverse in the back. Shimano makes a cheap reel that costs between 10 and 15 bucks when you can find them. I use them mostly. I think they are AX-1000's.

I use nothing but bait casts reels on my trolling and jig poles.
They store better than egg beaters and it is easier to get back to the same depth and no line twist.

If you ever try them, you'll not go back.

how are they easier to get back to the same depth? none of my baitcasters have any sort of depth marker but, all spinning reels come with one.

Counting out by pulls.

Use a sharpie marker. mark your line for about 4" & you can see it real good.

OK. I can see where if you used the loose drag/pulling method where a spinning reel would twist your line up quickly.

Not many folks use or even know that that little triangle thing on the spool of a spinning reel is a depth marker. You let out the amount of line you want, slip it over the top of the triangle so that it is in between the metal part of the spool and the plastic triangle and then close the bail. From then on all you have to do is open the bail and the line comes out until it gets to the retainer and you're right back where you need to be. No fussing with markers or other things like trying to make sure you pull the same length or amount of times.

i'm lazy so, I like the brainless method. laugh

I seldom use egg beaters, but when I do I mark my bepth by putting a rubber band around the spool

That would work until you get a 15lb flathead that broke your line... :-)

Thanks for the little triangle thingy. It will work.

I keep a Magic marker in the boat for marking depth.

I use pro-power braid on my spinning reels. When replacing the line, I use the little triangle thing to anchor the line to the spool, then I take the box of new line and walk out across my yard the length of line I want to spool onto the reel, cut the line, go back and spool my reel. This really helps with the twisting.

What do you do if the depth changes 4-5 times and you have 4-5 marks? Not trying to be a smart a$$ just seems like it would be a time consuming thing to hook a fish, grab your marker, mark your line, hook it around the little triangle thing then hope he's still on there and reel it in.
IMO, you should always know "before" you get bit how deep you are fishing. The first thing I ask my partner or tell my partner when I catch a fish is "how deep?" He better know!
I'm gonna do that to paul next time we fish together, he asks me how deep? I'm gonna show him a sharpie mark on my line clap
