Got me a couple of these little guys from Tackle Warehouse and they are amazing in detail. Hoping they perform as good as they look. Anyone tried them out yet?

I picked up one week before last at the Classic. It was the last one they had in the booth. I've talked to a couple guys that have thrown them and they've done pretty good with them. I plan on trying mine this weekend on Pines!!!

I bought one of the orginals in Cali back in 07 but scared to throw it. They were $60 each.

Robbie, These are plastic. You probably have a wood one that was hand carved. They had a few of those left and were selling them for $75. They were real works of art!!!

I have only used it a few times. When I was out at Clear Lake we used the Shell Cracker and the 9" Luncker Plunker. Freaking awesome seeing a big pig smack a huge top water! As far as works of art...you hit the nail on the head.

AWESOME baits. They are the perfect size to throw during a tournament and get plenty of bites on. Not to mention that the pictures do no justice to the finish quality. Great baits.

Not as much action as the multi jointed baits but it is a good bait in that price range.

Although I have never fished them myself, I have heard great things about the wood version. I believe they were designed to run shallow. The secret was supposedly to twitch it like a fluke. With a hard twitch it makes a loud and unique cracking sound hence it's name but the deadly part is the action. If done correctly the bait would supposedly spin 180 degrees after the twitch. I could see how this would really work well to solve the problem of "followers". Spinning 180 degrees right back into a fishes face would definitely entice even non feeding fish commit.
I'm interested to hear how the plastic version performs. Is it designed to fish the same? Please report back.

The original Shell Cracker is a Glide bait like a Spook that you can use to "walk the dog".
The new Black Dog G2 is a Crank style bait with a bill to give it a baitfish wiggle action. I suppose you could remove/ shave off the bill and make the G2 a Glide bait.
