I'll be heading to that area over spring break, should I bring a rod with me?

My therapist says she's happy I flyfish for the meditative qualities. Little does she know it's the cause of my PTSD.

Also touched by His noodly appendage.

Sure, take one along (four or five weight). My wife and I often end up there around Valentine's Day and there are fishing options even then. You will beat the major spring runoff and may find some willing trout. If it is too warm and sunny you may get some early runoff, but can usually find spots clear enough to fish. Check with the local fly shops (The Reel Life and High Desert Angler) for local options that are hot.

If you want to get hard core, take an eight weight and fish the Rio Grande for northern pike. It is not for the timid, but can be lots of fun.

there usually isn't a ton of snow everywhere around there this time of year, but this year there is. pike on the rio grande is your best bet right now. it's been a serious winter for the santa fe area. but the pike fishing has been good from the jd bridge to pilar.

Brush, I've never been, but a little googling turned up this link: http://highdesertangler.blogspot.com/ . It seems like a pretty thorough report and I hope you find it helpful. Go Pike!

Thanks for the info everyone. I checked out the websites you guys mentioned and everything sounds pretty slow right now. I'll take a rod just in case but won't make any special plans. I seem to always encounter fishy water when I don't have a rod with me, I've spent a small fortune on crappy spinning outfits while on vacations.
