me and a small group of guys , triton37, socaltom, john a. all went to falcon this last weekend, fishing was a blast, we went into the mexico side, and honestly the fishing over there wasent any better then the texas side IMO. everyone we talked to said to stay the heck out of mexico, but there was a bunch of guys going over there, we could look around and count 3 or 4 bass boats in range of us at almost all time we were in mexico. I guess the moral is I felt somewhat safe going over, we did see a few mexicans running gill nets, but most of them just waived as we passed, they didnt seem dangerous, but we kept our distance regardless. We went in the northern arm up by the church (got some cool pics! ) john and i actually saw a small boat with 3 mexicans drive across the lake and bail out onto the texas side. craziest thing ive ever seen, this happened about 1130am we were amazed how easy it was for them to come right over like they did.

No limping off into the sunset here... As I stated, I would like to see the statistic. Not a mere post of someones words... Regardless of what's said, I have been in Mexico for over 8 years now. My entire family spends Christmas Break down there every year. We will be leaving on the 14th and headed down for Spring Break Vacation as well for another good week.
Do I hang out in border towns or boys town drinking it up all night...? NO.
Do I travel late at night...? Uh... NO.
Do I go were I shouldn't be going....? Uh....NO.
Do I roll in to Mexico flashing cash, acting high and mighty.... Uh.... NO!
Do I act like any other normal human that has respect for himself and the others around him.....??? Uh..... Why Yes... Yes I do...
The bottom line here is when traveling in to Mexico or staying for any amount of time use common sense. The Do's and Don't are obvious.
By practicing these simple common sense practices, is that going to avoid the random act of violence? Probably not but you can surely improve your odds.
You can't avoid random acts of violence here in the US either.
How about the elderly lady in Dallas sitting in the privacy of her own home and some thug break in rapes her and then beats her to death.... Random act of violence right? avoidable? Probably not.
There are some truly amazing people in the country of Mexico. They still widely conduct business with a handshake and your word is your bond. I do a lot down in Mexico and I will continue to do so. I guess that fact that I have been down there for so long there is a comfort for me and it is truly my second home.

Will not disagree with you on how things are in the interior of Mexico. The discussion here is about what is happening along the border near Falcon. I am sure there are parts of Mexico that you can travel to with no problem still. When it comes to fishing on Falcon, I am going to be mighty particular about where I fish. If my wife is with me, I will be even more cautious.

My two friends were at falcon a month ago and went through a check station. Only thing they had to say was "yes" when ask if they were US citizens. They had a bunch of boxes and luggage in the truck and the boat cover on the boat. They were Never checked for anything. Hell, they could of had a boat load of amigos or drugs. But we all know the drug trafficing and illegal aliens crossing isn't that bad I still don't get why some people keep bringing up checkpoints. Trust me your friends were being check. They might have not thought so, but they were. Some have spotters to watch cars before the check points. Some have cameras. Some run plates before saying you are an American. Not to mention the dogs. And if they think you are up to something, they will radio ahead and have an agent trail you for a while and re run your plates. Not to mention your vehicle and boat are being weighed. That's another way they can tell if you've are hauling a little more than you should. These guys and gals are experts at profiling.

dstrong, how many police stations here in the US are being bombed on a daily basis? How many gunfights are the US police having with gangs in public streets with full auto weapns on a daily basis? how many businesses arelocking down for days at a time on a daily basis in the US. none. you can kepp mexico. it stinks overthere anyway. there is no sugar coating this issue. Bad stuff is going on over there right now and i would not go over there (by land for anything) and i grew up going over, been there hundreds of times. the checkpoints that were refered to in the articals are the bridges and the mex/US line not the ones 30 miles from the border.

Well, just got back last week and fished almost totally on the Mexican side. It's not like there are mountains on the shore line. If a truck or car were to approach the lake I can scoot with the best of them. Never felt endangered, saw guys running their nets and no contact but a wave now and then. There is definitly trouble in the border towns near the lake but I never felt like the lake was involved.
If the wind is kicking up I'd stay clear of Mexico cause I don't want to be put in a position where I'd have to get out on land or beach the boat. But uncomfortable fishing the latin side, not at all. Now everyone has to judge their level of comfort and be smart. But most of the big fish caught while I was there were on the west side. And when I go back the end of the month that's where I'll be.

To each his own. No one is forcing you to go across the border. I don't care if you ever go to Mexico it doesn't bother me one way or the other. It's different strokes for different folks. Thats what makes the world go around.
I will again state that I don't hang out in border towns. My ranch is 90+ miles interior Mexico. The state of Coahuila.

dstrong, How are you going to get across into Mexico, if the bridges are closed, with no one allowed to go either direction? I live in McAllen, right across from Reynosa, and there are gun battles going on right now, as I write this. Bridge is closed down, as are several other border bridges, since the Mexican Drug Cartels and the Mexican Military are fighting it out right now. You had better fly over the border by plane, or drive your boat through the Gulf of Mexico, because who knows how long this is going to go on, or how long the drug cartels will have control of these cities. The U.S. Customs will keep you from going over the bridge, to protect you from your ignorance. Maybe it will be all over when you head back to Mexico for Spring Break, or you may be crossing over thru a Mexican border town that the drug cartels haven't attacked, but remember, this stuff wasn't going on just a little over a week ago here in my back yard. Things are different now than what you've experienced in the past. Please check before making your trip to see what the climate is like at the border town you'll be crossing. From a local, that used to go to Mexico a lot...

That's a good video and I am aware of the US consular office being closed in Reynosa. I don't cross nor do I go anywhere near Reynosa. I cross in Eagle Pass and those border crossing are open.

You dont have to speak spanish to hear the fear in his voice and on his face. I will be down there at the end of the month but will stay on Texas side.

My ranch is 90+ miles interior Mexico. The state of Coahuila. Coahulia is where Rancho La Barranca is and that's the ranch where those hunters from the US were kidnapped a few years ago. Good luck with all of that.
