My father-in-law wants to go to the Pecos and put in at the High Bridge and fish. Never been so I need some info. When is the best time to go. What are the best methods for whites and striper? Where can you stay the night? How far is the high bridge from Del Rio?

Appreciate any help.

I'm not sure of the exact distance from the Pecos to Del Rio, but I'd guess it's about 30 miles to the Diablo East area and another 8 miles to Del Rio. I would stay at Anglers Lodge or one of the places around there and trailer up to the Pecos. Not much out there for accomodations. The boat ramp is actually the old highway where it descended into the canyon before the bridge was built. It's definately a beautiful part of the lake. Take some time to boat down to Panther Cave to see the paintings. Some of these other guys will have to help you on the timing and methods. I've caught whites up there on small crank baits while fishing for largemouths.

My dad and I make a trip up there every year. We camp on the bank as far up the river as we can get. We usually catch 'em on rat-l-traps and white or chartreuse crappie jigs. Rooster tails work really well too. The next 4 weeks or soo is when we have the best luck.
