TFF,
I have a MotorGuide Brute that has a problem with the red direction indicator. The indicator does not align with the direction of the motor, so the arrow points forward when I am going backward - or vice versa.
I can turn the red plastic lens by hand to align the arrow with the motor, but in a matter of minutes the arrow is off again.
I checked some new MotorGuides tonight at BPS, and on one unit you could turn the direction indicator independently of the motor. But on a model similar to mine, the red arrow lens would not turn without rotating the whole motor.
Has anyone previously experienced this same problem?
Thanks, Mark.

if you happen to know someone with one that has a bent or broken shaft and don't use it anymore, you could probably swap out that gear

Thanks, Jig n Pig!
I don't doubt that I need a new trolling motor. But that trolling motor has a 24/36 switch on it where it can use the two trolling motor batteries or include the cranking battery for extra juice.
I don't know if newer motors have that feature?
Thanks again, Mark.

If it is the gear that's stripped or if you need parts try calling Southwest Parts. I've heard Bob is retiring but there was another guy that was buying him out. Here is a link to their web-site.

Great trolling motor. I've had mine for the last 3 boats. Its been a backup but still works great.

Take the cover off and remove the gear in the bottom of the indicator. You can either replace that gear or put a drop of super glue on the end and put it back in the end of indicator.
