Hit my late night "honey hole" Saturday night, around 9:30 PM. Walk up, drop jig straight down into culvert, and WHAM! Nice, fat, thick bodied crappie!: Don't you think that amber colored street light gives the fins a cool "special effect"? Drop jig back down into same spot, and BAM! another solid hookup! Drop jig back down for a THIRD try. Is the third time a charm? YES! Is a "quadfecta" a bit much to ask for? NO! Total fishing time: about 20 minutes!(wife called, it was pushing 10 PM, yadda yadda!) This was the 3rd night this week around same time frame that i have found crappie in this spot. Friday night caught 4 in about 30 minutes, about this same size! So, no the winter crappie season isn't quite dead yet! Rudy

If you look closely you will see a blue/white jig skirt in one mouth, and a red/chartreuse skirt in another's mouth. Both jigs are on 1/16th oz UNPAINTED jig heads.

Great pics and nice fish Rudy. I like the one with the amber light, looks like some new species of crappie.

Thanks for the report and it was very entertaining...:) I am very urge to try that setup, do you think WRC by the George bush highway might have some crappies? I wonder if they travel that far from the lake..

They can't get that far up from lake. Too many dams at the golf courses and country clubs. first one is at Greenville Avenue, Royal Oaks Country Club. But each stretch of creek has its native fish, and fish that migrate up from the dams between the country clubs. Lots of good bass and channels all up and down that creek.
I vertical fish that jig for the crappie in the pics in an underwater culvert 3 ft from the bank, about 7 ft deep.

thank you for your info.. that case if the weather doesn't get too bad, i might have to drive down and try WRC by mockingbird and see how that works.. I saw people there fishing for cat fish, never thought crappies are there too...

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Caught these two tonight 2/26/10, around 9:30 pm, after work. 15 minutes worth of fishing: Red/chartreuse tubes on 1/32nd UNPAINTED jig heads. In the culvert, naturally, 7 ft of water. Rudy
