Does anyone on here free line shad?

Went out this morning and the guy I was with was fishing that way????

Seemed to work well...just never seen that before...Usually got the weight and let them go down to what ever depth...

Thoughts?

I've done it a time or two. I'll free line when I start to see the big gizzard shad come jumping out of the water with the big boys under them in shallow water. Only thing I dont like about it is the # of gut hooked fish you get when doing it since your line usually isn't tight when a fish bites. Other than that it works just fine certain times of the year. Oh yeah, if you're using big gizzard shad dont put out more than 2 lines or they'll tangle all to heck.

I do it all spring long ... tore them up this year along with numerous other trash fish like LMB and SMB. Ya never know what you'll catch
