danny kings has served my buddys well. your right though. if theres no cats in the area, it wont matter what you use. even dynamite wont make em float & youll just keep catching goose eggs.

Tried both with no success. I was just told by a buddy to use bread and cheezwiz! I'll try anything once! When y'all mention liver, are you just getting beef liver from the supermarket and cutting it into squares? I prefer chicken liver, but yes, from the supermarket. Some wrap it with thread or put it into pantyhose sections.
What has happed to you does not define who you are-
HOW you react to what happens to you DOES!

Chicken liver at Jerrys or Malones 99cents a lb.....cut it with scissors and straight to a hook....just dont sling it too hard or you will lose it....just a note the worms(live worms) at Academys with the Chartreuse coloring workd pretty good over at the Lavon Dam

I ususally drift fish for catfish but we also use juglines. I have bought both and have caught some on catfish charlie from a bank but i like danny king better. But i noticed the time i used that baby shad stuff that it had a wierd smell, to preserve it i would believe and that may have an effect on it because I catch my own shad and catch lots of catfish, mainly blues and channels.

Some of the Wal Marts have Mr. Whiskers. It is a good punch bait.

Turtle,
Don't waste your hard earned cash on the vacuum packed shad. I bought a pack two years ago and it's like wood compaired to fresh or frozen shad. Never had a bite on it and I fished with it hard on 2 out of the four rods...and I'm not talking about just one night. Couldn't catch a cold on it.
We have 33 degree water here in MN. Actually it warmed up to 35 last weekend but with air temps today at -10 I'm thinking it's going to cool back down...anyway..
Pick up a container of Secret Seven. I only had 15 minutes to fish last Sunday and with just a little S7 on a cut in half tube stuck on a 4/0 Gamakatzu circle hook I pulled in a 5 pounder. Since it was the first channel of the year, it was looking more like a 10 pounder.
Give Secret 7 a try just once. I think you'll be surprised.
PS I'm a cut sucker guy for Channels...but this time of year when suckers are hard to come by I don't think twice about using S7.

I have never caught a single catfish on prepared dough bait. Or those dead shad. I have however caught coolers and coolers full with fresh shad, spoiled fresh shad, cut bluegill, and a ton of em on shrimp from the grocery store on an octopus circle.JMO, but 4.99 for a 31-40 pc. bag of shrimp is the ticket if you're goin to walmart for bait.

Krypto aint lying, that frozen shrimp is often the ticket.
One benefit to the shrimp is that you can sling it out as hard as you can and you won't be losing your bait like you would if you were using straight up chicken liver.
WalMart offers all kinds of stuff for the catfishermen. Sometimes at around midnight or 1am I'll see a guy in line with a tub of livers, case of beer, set of pantyhose, bag of hot dogs and a can of cheesewhiz. The other folks look at him, covered in mud and filth and conclude that he is in for a night of some type of unheard of debauchery. But I know better. I give him a knowing nod and ask where the bite is.
