Great input guys.

Well, so long as I get a good deal, I pretty much made a decision the past few days (thanks to all the great input):

I looked in the back seat of my Titan. I love the pulling power of the Titan, but I had a school backpack I use for white fishing when I am walking.. heh.. and it was wedged between the back seat and my seat...i.e. that is all the width it had.

I looked at a 2009 Ford F-150 SuperCrew and it had 10-11 more inches of leg space in the back.

I think, so long as the deal gets worked that we want, I am going to get a 2009 F-150 with under 15k ish miles on it.

I may pay 30-50 more a month, but to me, it is irrelevant as we will pay it off in 4 years anyway. We have this deal where we do not claim dependents all year and then when we get our income return, we dump it into a bill and all we have left is my truck and the boat :p

So.. the milage is a little better, the insurance is a little lower, and the warranty is longer.

If they keep it in the payment range we want, it looks like I will have a good towing vehicle.. oh.. it will have the 5.4 liter engine, not the 4.6... heh

I'll put the boat behind it and post a picture of it after I get it.. lol

Thanks!

Russ

The 5.4 is OK, at least I think the newer ones are. Just make sure that you can stomach the MPG. Mine gets about 15 at 70 mph. You might hear people making higher claims but I would not believe anything over 17-18 with 2wd. These are heavy trucks. They can also be tire eaters because of the weight. 2wds might be better but I have never managed more than 42k out of a set of tires. Wife driving it locally does not help but I knew someone that drove a lot on the hwy and did not do much better.

crazy The 03 w/5.4 my dad just traded in was getting 18 to 20 mpg on the highway. The 20mpg he got on a 600 mile round trip unloaded. He traded it for a 2010 w/4.6 and it's not broken in yet and getting 18mpg. My 97 gets 14 to 15mpg pulling the boat and 16mpg highway empty when I can keep my foot out of it, which isn't often. I did get 18mpg right after it was broke in on a trip to Louisiana. My 97 wore out the original equiped Goodyear Wranglers at 45k then I put Uniroyal Liberators from Walmart and got 49k now on another set of Uniroyal Liberators. You have to keep them rotated and I don't mean rolling. hammer

With a Supercrew you might get 18 to at 55 mph. Who drives 55 any more. You are definitely not going to get that out of a SC 4x4.

So.. it is a 4x2 SC (2009) with a 4.6. I hear it should tow my boat just fine (2008 Triton TR186DC) and get better gas milage than my 2007 Titan King Cab.

So.. it's all good.

My boss and friend pulls his boat with an 05 supercrew f150. Averages 20.7 unloaded. About 16 towing his boat. Plenty of power, and room.

I tow my boat, about the same size and weight, with a ford ranger. Tows fine.

I don't recommend towing anything with a KIA. Make the wife get a van,and keep your truck. I cpould never not have a truck. Dirtbike, bicycles, trips to home depot. All things to consider.

No amount of convincing will make me believe that anyone can get 20.7 out of a F150 supercrew. MPG.com rates F150s as a category at 15 mpg combined hwy and city.

fordnut,

You are absolutely correct. I can be too much of an optimist at times and sometimes too quick to believe things. This is a case where I know from the experience of owning and driving a lot of different vehicles what is realistic and what is not. I also happen to be someone that is very conscious of MPG and drive accordingly. As far as strecthing the truth goes if we are talking fish that is fine but not MPG.

Stump jumber, I think that is up there with "I had a blank blank truck, ran it 350k, never had to replace anything, with one oil change and two tanks of gas before I sold it still with half a tank in it." Cracks me up everytime.

Well, I have had 2-3 tanks of gas in my F-150 SuperCrew so far and it is averaging 18.6MPG in the city (since I have not taken it anywhere really outside of Austin yet).

That is not with it towing.. heh.. so, we will see..
