i have a Bar Bar all roller rod for trolling (kings/wahoo) for sale for $150.

Trolling/chunking Barbar Custom 5'2" 60/80 (fishes on the bottom side of the rating) , Pac Bay Jr wind on rollers

rainshadow blank. nice, strong, and has good flex to it. this would be a great rod to fish 17-25# of drag on a trolling setup. i bought two of them, and only need one. this has the shrink wrap on the foregrip and the hypalon is perfect underneath. i small scratch (1/4" long x 1/32 wide"). has the removable butt section.

I got this brand new Penn 850 SSM for sale. I'd take $90.00 picked up for it. Was $150 when I picked it up 2 but only used 1. Great gear for Tuna too

Personally I don't buy different gear for different species. I'm running Shimano TLD 25's, Penn 113HLW's, Penn 114HLW's and Penn/Shimano 30's for all of my fishing from trolling to bottom and drift fishing. I keep two large spinning rigs & one light spinning rig to pitch to ling, bait or anything on the surface and then two Penn 309 levelwinds for snapper.

My gear is probably overkill for most kings but it doubles nicely for AJ's, grouper, wahoo and the odd med-large shark. I don't go out far enough to mess with tuna.

Yup, Its built for SW. Not as pretty as a Stella but this will put a whooping on the larger fish. 65lb mono on a 6ft broomstick will put a whoopin on them AJ's!

A small tunny

I think that anything over 20 lb. is a bit large for kings. You can't fish that much drag anyway. I have several 20 lb. outfits that work great for kings. My favorite is actually one I custom built for my wife. It is a spiral wrapped 7' 12-25 Rainshadow composite live bait blank with a Torium 16 and 20 lb mono. Awesome King outfit. I also fish an Avet MXL with 30 lb. braid on a custom 6'6" Allstar 15-30 made from a graphite bass blank. Very light and very fun with a smoker. Got a TLD 5 with 17 lb. mono on a graphite 7' 10-20 lb bass rod. Also fish several spinning outfits (Boca 50, Spheros 8000 and some penn 8500s) for drifting baits while bottom fishing. All these set ups work great for kings and dolphin without being overkill. I even ocaisonally fish 12 lb. mono for kings and have never lost one due to line breaking. Pulling hooks...that is another matter.

I might fish heavier line and outfits if there is a chance of getting a wahoo or big dolphin or I am trolling a big plug but I usually keep it light for kings.

Bass Pro has the "Snaggin Sticks" Spoonbill Rods for roughly ~$17 & Penn 209 or equiv & 80lb Big Game....

people will think that's overkill, I usually get 1 good heavy run out of the Kings & beat them down. The longer your fighting a fish, the less time your baits are in the water. Yes, it's a HD Rod with some serious line, I'm usually chasing the ling around the rigs also, when you get a hook-up, gotta have the backbone to yank them away from the pilings before they cut you off or Keep them out of the chain under the Bouys. Occasionally when the clear water comes in in August we get some decent size Sailfish in as close as 6 miles, now THAT is a blast!

I don't wanna mess around with them, get them in the cooler & bait back in the water. Last year I ran my 17' Boston Whaler to the 1st rig off the North Jetty of Port A, 20 min Boatride, 15 min Trolling, Both my Kings in cooler, messed around with some undersized Ling around the rig & back on the trailer in about 2 1/2hrs.

I tried to be normal but it got boring so it's just back to being ME~

I guess if your objective is to put meat in the cooler, a heavier setup is advantagious. I like to match the tackle to the species and have a little fun with lighter setups. To each his own I guess.
