A buddy and I are headed to Cedar Creek Wed - our first trip up that way. We're staying in Gun Barrel City - where would any of you regulars recommend for breakfast up that way?

Cross the bridge and you will see Mclains at the first light in Seven Points. Its good home style cooking.

McClains has a good breakfast if ya dont mind all the smoke frown They are located at the corner of 274 and 334. There is also a new Huddle house,I havent eaten there yet but it is at the corner of 334 and 198. Then there is the always good WhaterBurger that is on 334 in between WalMart and 198. I am sure ther is more but that is all I can think of at this moment. Well, I just remembered there is a pretty good resturaunt called the Feed Bag, Feed Store, or Feed Sack , I cant remember which but it is between the 2 south 198 bridges and it has a good breakfast.
Hope this helps.
Jake

kjolly,
I think the Golden Arches opens at 6am if a McMuffin type works for you. I sure hope if you're staying at a motel, it's the Best Western. BEWARE of the Loon Bay. Stayed there one night and heavy plexiglass in the office is all that saved the owner/manager/jerk. Dope house, I think.

ya, that guy on the trading post did it for me.

Also, I eat at the gas station caddy corner to McLains almost every time Im there. Its a pretty fancy setup with several breakfast to-go options.

The Huddle House is pretty good. Kind of like a Waffle House format. It is non-smoking. There is also:
. Chili's (334 across from the Wal-Mart)
. Cedar Isle: Rest & Bar (between Seven Points and Gun Barrel City
. China Wok: Buffet style (next to Cedar Isle)
. Rail Station (HWY 274 on the SW side of the lake north of Trinidad)

You should not go hungry on this lake. BTW, I heard last Saturday that the Feed Box on HWY 198 is going out of business as of last Sunday.

If you need any other info, let me know. I live in the area.

You might also try Tiki-Hut at Don't Port Marina.
New owners and open year round now. Much better than in the past plus you can drive up in your
boat. NOT open for breakfast, at least wasn't a
couple of weeks ago. Only place on the water that
I am aware of.
BTW, in case anyone cares, Marimac Marina is now
closed for good, no ramp usage allowed either.

Good eats on Cedar Creek lake, your in Gun Barrel and no one even said anything about Cedar Creek Cafe, where are all the old timers at? just north of 31/198 intersection on the east side of the road is Cedar Creek Cafe(next to subway), and they are only one of the best breakfasts on the lake. From a trash omelet big enough to feed Andre the Giant to the trip stack "eat it all and its free" pancakes to the fresh biscuits and gravy and homemade hashbrowns, this is how breakfast is done! They open before the sun comes up so as not to interfere with your fishing and its only minutes from the boat launch in Caney city. Its a family owned restaurant which reminds me... Say hey to my mother while you are there, just watch out she might talk your ear off.

Huddle House at the intersection of 198 and 334. Great breakfast.

Trash omlette big enough to feed Andre the Giant. That I've got to go try. Sounds like my kind of place.
