I'm taking my dad fishing in a couple of weeks and it will be his first trip ever using a baitcast reel. I was wondering what people think is the best line to use for castability since he's a little bit older and can't really get a lot of force behind his casts.
Any suggestions or should I go with plain old mono?
I'm just wanting him to avoid frustration if possible.

I would go with Suffix Siege, great line, 14lb test. Great cast-ability, lay's well on the spool. Its a great line, I prefer it to any other mono period. I've tried the spider wire, Berkley's and many others, IMO the suffix out performs all of them. No, I do not work for suffix, they do not sponsor me. It's just the best I've used.

Suffix Seige or Trilene XL (extra limp). But why put him through the hassle of a baitcaster? Get him a Zebco 33 so he can enjoy his day on the water with you.

+1 id throw a zebco on one of your bass rods....will be alot more cast and less frustration for him Suffix Seige or Trilene XL (extra limp). But why put him through the hassle of a baitcaster? Get him a Zebco 33 so he can enjoy his day on the water with you.

YOU take the baitcaster and make a cast. Then take some black tape and put it over the line on the reel one wrap then reel your line back in. This should cut down on bad backlashs. This will help alot. I do this with my flipping reels when flipping brush.

I agree with the post above about using a spincast to make the day enjoyable if he doesn't have time to feel comfortable with a baitcaster before going out on the water. If going with a baitcaster I agree with the post above of Suffix Siege. I just posted this on another thread. I use Suffix Siege in the blue label. I am not sponsored by them. And I usually don't plug for companies for free. But it is the best line I have found so far. Has very low memory and extremely tough. I caught a 35# Flathead on 10# test. The crankbait was down at it's gullet (nothing but line coming out it's mouth). I fought that fish for about 15-20 min. and there was no frays in the line that I could feel. I have been using it for two years with no complaints.

I would get Trilene Big Game..backlashes happen often when learning them, for 7 bucks you can reline 4-5 times.

I think it will be ok if hes just practicing and your not fishing gin clear water.
