Buchanan water temp was still only 51 degrees on Wednesday. That doesn't bode well for an early spawn. We need about 2 solid weeks of weather like today was. But, they're calling for next week's highs in the 50's and lows in the 30's and that wont cut it. I'm going in 2 weeks. Wish I could postpone it til after mid March, but the campsite is booked and paid for. Maybe if the weather doesn't cooperate, we can find some of those delicious Colorado river crappie!

I'll be out there hopefully no later than noon on Sat. Right now they are predicting a 30% chance of thunderstorms for Sat night. Temps should be alright though, around 70 day and low in the 50s. Thats great camping weather in my book even if it does rain. Anyone out there stop by and say hi. I'll be in the green mazda pu and yellow kayaks.

The get trapped at the tow flats, when the lake level falls I wonder if that means there are a lot of first year fish?

I personally caught zero whites, but I talked to a couple people that had full stringer.crappie and whites. I am up a little from the park but we kayaked down to the ramp and saw a lot of people fishing. We ran a line out for cats and smacked a huge cat. it looked like a blue, but could of been a large channel. Does anyone know if there are blues in that part of the river?

Whats the best bait for catfish at Bend???? Also what is the best lure and color for the whites? I usually throw a chartreuse road runner but dont always do well.

for cats I would definately go with shad. I threw a line out with stink bait and cut shad and drew back empty hooks and one really nice blue on the shad, but the stink bait was fully intact. with the whites it's anybody's guess. I am with you on the chartreuse. I also use white. my buddy refuses to use anything besides rooster tails. I had a buddy clean house with a giant buzz bait.you never know so it is good to have a variety. there is one thing I would recomend:go buy a minnow trap and a cast net.If you catch it in the river that is obviously what they are eating. not to mention it is a lot cheaper in the long run.

I fish mainy for yellow cats, so I use perch.
For the whites it seems to change every year. One year a white grub with a pink head will work, the next it's chartreuse roadrunners. You can never go wrong using minnows caught there though.
